So ive just built my first computer and its great but a lot of the games i play i keep getting screen tearing in, like sometimes major or little minor parts, some games if i ALT+Tab and go back in its corrects itself, others i have to completely close the game and re-open it.

So i done a little digging and was reading about it before i decided to post in here, Ive checked that V-SYNC is on in the games i know this contributes to screen tearing and also the refresh rate of my Monitor/HD TV is 60hz.

Can anyone shed any light on this im using a Asus Radeon 280x Graphics card

Didn't know where else to post it as i thought this was the right place

Thank you

Youll have to do dummies guide please dude, im new to all this trying to get my head round it where would i find this in the actual in game settings?

Think ive just figured it out with a little help from Google ive set the wait for vertical option to on, unless application says so, and also made sure that triple buffering is on, watching and reading on the net people are saying to move a slider bar to quality is this an older version of CCC i take it?

Open amd catalyst control center, go into gaming profiles, scroll down to bottom is vsync set to application controlled? If yes then leave that.
What game is it you having trouble with? Is game running full screen? And check again that vsync is enabled in game settings.

Failing that
What other software you have installed that links to games like msi afterburner OSD or radeonpro?

Done everything you said fingers crossed its works, dont use any other software that im aware of the computer is brand new not much installed. and yes just the one screen i have

Looks like he's sensitive to tearing and the input lag from VSYNC is dreadful.

I said it as more of a joke but it's basically the only way to get rid of tearing and input lag at the moment.

He dont have Nvidia GPU. He having a issue enabling vsync, plus still using 60hz so the screen tear effect will be much worst. It will be cheaper him going 120hz or 144hz and reduce the tearing effect to almost none.

Unless OP dont mind changing GPU and Display, pointing Gsync on the thread is pointless.

Well G-Sync and Freesync (when it finally goes into production) is the best way of getting rid of tearing and stutter, so handy for the OP and others who may stumble across this thread to know.

For you maybe but those who have went GSYNC have said they didn't realise how bad tearing was even on a standard 144hz monitor till they used GSYNC.

If you are sensitive to it you will see it on any monitor that isn't using some kind of sync.

The difference between 60hz and 120hz tearing alone is massive. least was for me.

This the best I have to show you... Can you point out screen tear?

It's quite easy to see tearing on that video yes, look at edges of buildings when you're running. You just aren't that bothered by it.

I can see tearing on screen in that video, it's quite easy to spot especially when you turn quickly. I think you'd be quite surprised at just how stable the image is on GSYNC if you tried it.

As always though it's very hard to sway your opinion on anything, it took us forever to convert you to stereo headphones :p
