AMD’s Richard Huddy Responds To Criticisms of Mantle

Johan Andersson would not allow, support or condone gimping of DirectX so don't think that is what is going on for a second. Whilst DX cannot offer the same gameplay experience Mantle does, it still does a good enough job on the whole. The problems with Battlefield 4 are so vast, you cannot really blame this on one particular API. The issues are deeper than that. The game is a bit of mess for everyone at the moment, Battlelog is full of it. We can only hope the huge update coming early September fixes a lot of these issues.

What huge update, BF5.:D

DICE/EA really need a big slap.

They always release Buggy games then promise to fix them Later, Never do.
The issues are so deep that they most likely cannot be fixed now.

Their coding Foundation is BAD so everything built on top is BAD.

i think choosing EA to Promote Mantle was a Good idea in Theory, but knowing EA/DICE track record they should have gone with someone else:rolleyes:

hope Mantle does succeed, but EA pushed them back in my eyes.
Notice Huddy's event they didnt talk about BF series almost at all.
I think they know EA/DICE made a shambles of the series

EA/DICE - BF Series - the new COD series. update because we want money

But he did allow the release of a broken game, he allowed dlc cash generators on to the market while it was heavily broken, he allowed the game to enter a beta program 8 months after he'd taken all of our money for a finished article.

It is clear Mr Andersson (intentional Thursday morning matrix reference) cares a whole lot more about lining his pockets then he does about his large customer base.

I wouldn't accuse him of gimping dx pref, but its certainly a possibility. There are few big developers that give a toss about the end user, especially if that end user is a dirty pirate pc player (**** you too Ubisoft). Dice did used to be about the customer, now it's about cash generation. Remember when they said they'd never charge for dlc? Oh look the complete Bf4 package has £40 of dlc slapped on it :p

If AMD really cared they would help sort out the rest of the Khronos Group and improve Open GL. Remove the guff that had built up over the years and tweak the low level access stuff that’s already present. I would love to see OpenGL and CL (the compute part which could have been used as a hardware physX alternative) back to its prime as more open alternative to DirectX/PhysX etc.

Not the open but not open Mantel which adds a third Api and fractures the market even more which is what PC game doesn't need.

If Nvidia wanted to bring out their own graphics API ill be saying the same thing, get yourself and the rest of the Khronos Group to sort out OpenGL and don't make anew API which only you will realistically use.

Nope, I had months of problems (CPU stutter) now it runs fine. I do find I have to reinstall drivers often though. Seemed to alleviate or lessen problems. I found some servers worse than others.

Though BF4 has always been 'a problem.'

V frustrating as it's across AMD & Nvidia but some do and some don't.

Then again this is what been hopeing for for years !! http://www.anandtech.com/show/8363/khronos-announces-next-generation-opengl-initiative

I do hope this gets some real traction

In that the best thing AMD can do is hand them the Mantle API and let them do with it what they want.
which is exactly what they did. :)

AMD hopes to put a little Mantle in OpenGL Next

Huddy told us AMD has done a "great deal of work" with the Khronos Group, the stewards of the OpenGL spec, on OpenGL Next. AMD has given the organization unfettered access to Mantle and told them, in so many words, "This is how we do it. If you want to take the same approach, go ahead." Khronos is free to take as many pages as it wants out of the Mantle playbook, and AMD will impose no restrictions, nor will it charge any licensing fees.

Shareholders. :(

Sell your 7970's and get two 290's ^^^^ you will see a huge difference, take it from another FX-8350 user :)

:p:p:p

I will do that but I am planning on doing it next year as I really am happy with the current performance ( and I know I am coming from a point of how do you know if you haven't seen it ) as I am thinking next year my system will be 3 years old and time for a full upgrade so ill do the BIG BANG thing again like I did with this one.

Complete new builds are always fun...

No crashing here, just poor performance. Even Xfactor youtuber has his fps locked to 120fps and in past it was locked now in his videos you can see his fps all over the place.

Dice really need better QA testing

Its no bother...^^^^ you were right whatever way it was interpreted, in a sense, i could have been as clear as you suggested.
