System spec: intel i7 930 @ 4 ghz , 2 x R9 270x 4gb xfire , 6 gb ram (3x2gb)

I was wondering how these cards would hold up with a 1440p monitor , currently have a 4 yr old 1080p 60hz sammy ..

I play a few competitive mp games so my other option was maybe a 1080p monitor but 120hz/144hz, but I was wondering how much of a difference I'd see going down this route in comparison to my current 60hz monitor

They will do well, crucially they are the 4GB variants.

Cheers , would there be much point in me investing in a 1080p 120hz monitor ? Do they make a big noticeable difference when gaming ?

The whole 120hz vs 1400p comes down to preference, i tried 120hz but it did nothing for and much prefer the prettyness of higher res but some will claim 120hz is more important

I prefer 120/144Hz as tearing is horrible and the input lag when using vsync is even worse.
Your cards should do okay, I think they're about equal to a 290.

Cheers for the replies , need to save some money then I want a new monitor now :) ...Anyone actually seen or played on 60 and 120 hz screen side by side to see the difference ? And would you have to maintain 120 fps for it to feel smooth ?

I have a 60hz screen but still run with vSync off and higher FPS, i do it because it reduces input latency, it is noticeable in that sense.

As for Smoothness, its like silk anyway, i run Mantle.

You not get any screen tearing with v sync off ? Yeah I use mantle for bf4 so it's like silk maxed out on my machine @ 1080p :)
