*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Perhaps the cradle would be better unless you ever have 6 hours plus gaming sessions :).

I don't often have 6 hours+ gaming sessions but it would be nice to have a decent battery in the controller, especially if I can get one cheapish.

What size batteries are you looking for the controllers? I have a friend who is a wholesaler, he can get odd shapes and sizes if required.

It's the same as the one in the above link.

Don't see the point personally myself.

Do you have a wall socket/USB near where you sit? Plug any android phone charger into said socket and then into the controller = never run out of battery again.

What would be the point of having a wireless controller then?

Keep getting error code e-82000121. Funds could not be added from my wallet. Even though there's plenty enough money in my wallet. :S also, it happens when trying to download free stuff like demos. Is there something wrong with sonys end?

A quick qoogle shows you're not the only one with the problem and it is something at Sonys end. Apparently it's happening to quite a few people and Sony are yet to say anything about it.

You don't have a wire trailing from the console to the pad (across the room) but from your nearest power source instead.

You can also easily unplug it and plug back in as necessary, etc.

For me it's the perfect solution

That's great for you, but I would prefer a better battery. If I had it plugged into my nearest power source the cable would be at a 90 degree turn to the left and I would find that annoying.

For you maybe, but for the manyof rest of us the whole point of having a wireless pad is so that it stays wireless. Luckily, mine lasts pretty much all day.

I have two pads and rotate so I am using it wireless 90% of the time, if it's about to run out mid session I plug it into the wire beside me.

Having a wire is no big deal either I find, maybe some of you should actually try it before knocking it I don't even notice the difference between the two.

My wire is also to the right hand side so 90degrees turn.

I usually also have multiple wires in my headset solution too which is also wireless in the sense no direct cable from myself to the console but to the wireless mixamp instead.

I use it as a backup option, I normally rotate between two controllers.

Yeah, because we don't know what a wire looks like innit. Never used one before.

You are often hilariously patronising.

I am baffled with all these pad mods...so is the problem mainly to do with the stick "flaking"?

I do want to get a PS4 so I am worried about this which brings me to the questions

1 - are there any plans to update it to fix the problem by Sony.
2 - what are the best alternatives
3 - is this problem widespread?

Well in the past people have said there sticks are of a slightly different material which suggests sony have improved the material used on the sticks but I don't think it's been confirmed by Sony?

I find the ds4 is great, only problem I have had is wear on the sticks which I have fixed by putting xbone sticks on which I find really good.

Some people have problems some don't, think it's 50/50 if you get wear on the sticks.

I've been through 3 pads (would be more if I had bothered to send them back quicker I imagine though).

I'm not the only one either, a few mates have had issues too. The fact hundreds of people online have reported the issue as well as many one here if not most, then it is a widespread issue.

Whether or not it has been addressed is as good as anybodies guess, but I would imagine it's cheaper to fix the issue than having to pay for constant replacements.

At the start we had to pay to send controllers to sony as well, now they pay for postage, so that is an additional cost they are bearing.

I would say they have fixed it by now, if they haven't then must have retards running the place. I should be getting 2 brand new controllers next week, so I'll see if they feel any different.

If you're concerned about it, best thing would be to try and ensure you get a newer console revision; one would assume that if they have fixed the issue the newer console batches will have it.

Easiest way to tell is that the new ones have Driveclub on the back of the box.

Two black controllers from launch here, no issues with the sticks yet. If I look real close there appears to be the slightest signs of use but no flaking.

There's no doubt there is/was a problem with the rubber on the sticks but fortunately neither of my controllers have had much prolonged day to day use.

I've played through Killzone, CoD, BF4, MGS, Infamous & had two playthroughs of TLoU but I'm not someone that puts a couple of hours in to CoD/FIFA online every night. I suspect the guys with issues are heavy users or have grubby mitts.

I'm not a heavy user, probably use too much force (fifa especially seems to cause it).

I used the exact same force on PS1->PS3 controllers and the only controllers that wore away were PS3 ones after years of use, these crumbled within a couple of months use.

Also same force on XBox and 360 and they never had any issues at all.

It's got nothing to do with the users, it's very poor quality rubber.

I've noticed slight wear on the top of my sticks, but I'm not a 'power user' by any means. I'm now using a set of thumb grips anyway. :)

I have a blue controller from launch and aside from some smoothing on top of the right stick, it's fine.

Also prefer the sticks to the Xbox sticks as when I played on a mates Xone I found the sticks too small.
