Gaming mice - Are they worth it ?

I'd say yes but in the end it depends what is more comfortable for you. Currently using the Razer Molten limited edition, love it has an additional 12 buttons for mmos but I only ever find the first 6 xD.

Gaming mice are so worth it. Went from a pretty meh HP mouse (left click broke from too much rapid clicking) to a G500 and it's easily the best peripheral I've had. Super comfy, I can customise every button on there and the scroll wheel is gorgeous. In clicky mode it's super precise for quick weapon changes and in smooth mode makes scrolling on docs/web a pleasure. It's good enough that I've seriously been considering picking up another or the S version (or its successor the Proteus) just incase this breaks after they go EOL. It's that good.

Gaming mice make a huge difference. In the past 5+ years I've been using a Logitech MX518 and then went onto the Razer DeathAdder. Both fantastic mice. I've tried various laser mice along the way but couldn't get along with them as I usually have my DPI pretty low anyway. :)

I've had a razor copperhead now for about 10 years, have mice come along way in this time as I'm debating on upgrading or would I be just waiting my money.I was looking at logitech's g502.

I don't think its worth it when you can get gaming mice for like 20 or 30 quid.

I have had many razor mouse and the wire that goes into mouse gets so bent it makes the mouse not work.

I have been using a4tech x7 and so far the build quality around the wire has a bit which prevents it from not working as well as being a capable gaming mouse does the job for me.

lol gaming mice. Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical > all.

There is literally no point in me "upgrading" from this, nothing wrong with it and gaming mice offer no advantage what so ever.

Only thing that matters is comfort and if you need extra buttons or not.

I disagree. While they may not make you any better at the game they do (if you get one which suits you) enhance your enjoyment of the game. I don't like the MS mouse you mentioned, because it feels uncomfortable and cheap to me. I find my Logitech far more pleasant to use.

Let's put it this way, is having a 27" QHD screen, or a powerful gfx card so you can run everything at max settings a necessity? Don't forget, we play games for fun, so if something can make them more fun then it's worth it imo.

I have the Shogun bros Ballista and I really rate it a class above my old logitech standard mouse. The many buttons and the on the fly dpi change are fantastic features and the mouse is very comfortable and light.

How do they enhance your enjoyment? As I said all that matters is comfort, I don't find Logitech mice comfortable, and they tend to have prediction forced on.

WMO is lightweight, low lift off distance, no prediction, no acceleration, a flawless sensor and 400 dpi which is more than anyone will ever need. Just no need to use any other mouse, unless you NEED extra buttons or you find it uncomfortable.

Seems like there are quite a few comments in this thread that are more about going to decent mice than gaming mice.

OP, what mouse do you have at the moment? If you're coming from a 2 button jobby that was thrown in free with a PC then you're going to find anything a revelation.

Ironically I'll echo a couple of the posts in here - the old school MWO's are great, so precise and comfy. They do however have a cord, which is why I ditched mine. Been using Logitech MX Revolutions for years now since the shape is hugely comfy for me. That said, FPS's are harder with it because my hand then "sits" in a different shape, and I can't move as quickly or precisely.

There will be plenty of different opinions, but broadly speaking, if you buy from a reputable brand in their mid-high ranges (e.g. Logitech, Microsoft, Razer, Saitek, etc) then you're getting a decent mouse. The most important thing is something that suits you as a human being!

I loved using the copperhead years ago, great mouse.

After it wore out I went through many other razers (lachesis, deathadder, etc) and logitechs (g500, g9 and so on) until finally settling on the steelseries ikari.

I know the shape is completely different from the copperhead but I have been using it ever since and hands down the most comfortable mouse I've ever owned.

Ofc gaming mice are worth it its nice to have your own customizable buttons and DPI, so now when im doing crap i cant blame my gear, i just have to admit its me lol

I currently use a G5, and have my old G400 as back up, but just now looking in to it, I'm not sure which is supposed to be the better mouse, haha!

3600dpi optical vs 2000dpi laser.

I don't understand all this DPI business, what exactly does it do? I've heard of people lowering their DPI when sniping on Battlefield, but surely it's just the same as lowering the sensitivity?

Been using the Anker 8200 DPI gaming mouse, not that I use it that high. Cost me about £26 and it's been really good. In fact, got it for free due to Amazon sending a replacement to my dad and I managed to fix the "broken" one (compartment you put the weights in wouldn't open, but got it open) so not bad :D

Up to a point. High DPI sensor can pick up more details at low speed, since they can sense smaller movement. Although cheap high DPI sensors don't fare well with high speed movement (because higher DPI requires higher quality components like the DSP, optical sensor, lens, LED, and not cheating by just focusing the lens too much, thus making it 'high DPI').

If you find your mouse jumps too many pixels with small inputs, then higher DPI will help with that. Or else, lower your sensitivity and make bigger movements (why quake / CS players typically use low DPI mouse but windmill their mouse around on giant mouse pads).

So if you play on a small mouse pad (meaning, you don't move your mouse much), you typically prefer a higher DPI mouse (works better with small movements). If you need a large surface area (larger movements), you typically prefer lower DPI (works better at high speed). IMO, anything above typically 2000 DPI is kinda OTT.

I'd say definitely worth it, bought a Deathadder around 5 years ago and fell in love with it. Last 2 years before it went and replaced with another which finally went on Friday night 3 years later. I then purchased another, albeit the newer 2013 edition the same night and got it delivered today and what was an already brilliant mouse has been improved and even better.

I couldn't use anything else currently, it's shape and size fits my hand perfectly. It's precision and smoothness as well is just second to none for me.

I always used a wireless mouse as i was also trying to remove cables from my desktop but I needed a new keyboard so I though I would get a keyboard and mouse that matched ( I have a red and black theme going on atm ) so I got a TT eSports Theron 5600 DPI Gaming Mouse and a TT Challenger Pro keyboard and I did notice a big difference going back to a wired mouse.
