**SOLVED** Sapphire R9 290x Tri-x crossfire issues

**SOLVED**

After having tried every recommended fix I could find, sadly to no avail, I finally fixed this with the following steps :

1. Quick uninstall all AMD drivers/software etc.
2. Shut down
3. Unplug secondary GPU
4. Boot into normal mode
5. Via Windows device manager, browse to drivers folder for installation DVD of GPU
6. Install drivers manually
7. Shut down
8. Connect secondary GPU back to MB
9. Boot into normal mode
10. Run the auto setup off the installation DVD of the GPU, and install CCC, with all options selected.

Voila!! Xfire working!

Clearly this is an unpredictable bug issue, and various approaches are required, but I hope this helps someone else.

Hi all

I've built a rig this weekend using 2 x Sapphire R9 290x Tri-x OC cards on an Asus Maximus Ranger vii board. I'm having some issues getting crossfire up and running with any consistency.
I first of all had the one card running while I resolved a power issue to the second card. When the second card came online it was listed as disabled in CCC. I uninstalled the 14.4 driver, and installed the 13.251 drivers that came with the card's installation DVD. This brought Crossfire up ok. I then upgraded to 14.4 but without uninstalling the 13.251 drivers (yeah I know, bad practice). At this point Crossfired disappeared as an option in CCC and the second card was once again disabled. I then uninstalled the 14.4 drivers, including using guru3d's driver removal tool in safe mode, and reinstalled the 13.251 drivers. Unfortunately Crossfire was still missing in CCC, and the second card is still disabled.
I'm sure I'll be able to get Crossfire running on 13.251 with enough tinkering, but can anyone confirm whether 14.4 drivers will definitely support crossfire for r9 290x cards?

Thanks for reading

John

Ha I do the same quite a lot , most questions and problems have been asked before it's just finding them, much easier and quicker to post a new thread :)

I'm using a Corsair HX1000W PSU. I've had it for quite a while, but it's a good quality psu and in good condition.

Uninstall AMD drivers
Use DDU to get rid of left overs
Install 14.7 drivers
Check crossfire is enabled in CCC
Check Framepacing is enabled in CCC
Use MSI Afterburner to disable ULPS

Job done

Once the above is done visit some of the bench threads on this forum.:D:)

Oh dear lord, the thought of going through all that drama again to upgrade drivers... :(

Well so far it's taken me pretty much a full day of troubleshooting to get Xfire working. From what I've read and seen there's no guarantee it won't reoccur and start off the whole troubleshooting process again. I'll wait a bit and actually spend some time enjoying a bit of gaming before I proceed with driver upgrades.

It could be worse you could have a few more to get xfired.:)

Hells's teeth! That's one hell of a rig!
I'm just waiting to get a new case so I can fit my cpu cooler properly and tidy up the cabling, and I'll post you a pic then :)
