Simple question, why?

Are they cheaper? Perhaps the simple black paint.

Hard to colour match? Matching the wings and bumper difficult due to different materials?

Just curious!

Carbon fiber bonnet are often left unpainted looking black. A lot of people imitate this to have the 'cool' JDM race car look

Bonnets (hoods) were originally "blacked" because it was supposed to reduce "bonnet glare" in the drivers eyes !

I'd have thought the bonnet would've needed to be chromed for that to be an issue but hey ho...woddoo I know !

It used to be matt black on 60s or 70s rally cars, usually ones with long bonnets to stop glare as said above :) Probably something you get on older cars with long flat bonnets.
