Hi all is as the title says I'm after a laptop that will perform better than my desktop ( specs in sig ). Being as my desktop is 4 years old I'm guessing most laptops will these days.

Main use will be games that I play on my desktop , web browsing , playing videos

Budget is £400

I'm pretty sure that there's no laptop you could buy for £400 that would have a graphics card that was anywhere near the HD 5770.

What about a AMD A10 Quad Core with AMD Radeon HD 8570M with 2gb

( £350 after cash back )

Obviously I can't post a link

It's probably a perfectly fine laptop, but nowhere near the performance of your existing desktop.

The 5770 has over 4x the memory bandwidth and 800 vs 320 shaders of the low-end mobile 8570M. As for the CPU even an old 1st gen i5 will blow an AMD A10 mobile chip away.

You'll need £650+ most likely to get a cheap gaming laptop with an Intel CPU and something like an GeForce 840M.

Sorry fella. I remember speccing up my first gaming rig for £960. When i went to gaming laptop, i had to pay £1280 after discounts for a Dell XPS.

Truth is nothing has changed. the laptops have gotten better, with the GPU's catching up well with the desktop equivalents, but they are inherently more expensive!

Hmm it would seem so, I'm quite surprised my 4 year old desktop will still outperform a £400 laptop, just as well I didn't go ahead and order it. Maybe I'll just stick to gaming on my desktop then.

Cheers anyway.

They are closer than you think since the 800 shaders of the 5770 are of the old 5d type.

Having an older shader does not mean the 5770 will be close to the 8570M, the 5770 still outperforms it significantly. There are other factors to consider as well, the memory bandwidth, speed and type, the power envolope, etc. No way you will find a GPU in a £400 laptop that will match the 5770.

My current laptop has a 7670M (which seems to perform better than the 8570M) and I previously had the 5770 in my desktop, and it doesn't even come close in terms of performance.
