'Silly walks' at Buckingham Palace

I assume those guns are loaded(sa80?)? Maybe spinning around isn't such a good idea :D.

Still whoever reported it is pathetic in my opinion. His duty is to protect the castle right? Pretty sure he would easily see anyone heading towards it over that expanse.

O right. Well maybe they're scared he'd get dizzy, stumble 30 yards towards them and fall into someone with the pointy end. Seems to be the only logical danger :D.

Annoyingly the BBC doesn't have comments so I will say Andy Richards is a knob and when he googles himself he'll know what I think of him.

Yes you Andy! :D

^^ According to another thread here no they aren't loaded.

Well they're clearly loaded as they have a magazine attached... whether that magazine contains any rounds is another question...

Given there are also armed police present at the gates it's plausible that it doesn't... though might well do depending in the threat level... even then they're not necessarily made ready so hardly an issue.

My brother was in the Irish Guards so did buck house duty and he told me they were unloaded... in any case, the guy shouldn't have been doing what he was doing. There's standards to maintain. If you don't like it, don't join a guard regiment.

Edit: Post from the other thread.

Whether the L85 he is holding is loaded or not entirely depends upon the BIKINI alert state the military is in. I don't know at which state the Grenadier Guards load their weapons though.

And it's not an "SA80" it is an L85 (probably L85A1 to be specific, all the L85A2 are likely to be in service in warzones). The SA80 is the family of weapons, not a specific weapon. God damn CoD getting it wrong.

Well he obviously had his weetabix. Poor guy will probably get sacked. As for the **** speaking in the video maybe he should have showed "Prince" Harry's sex tape romp with the Las Vegas showgirl to his daughter and said "He shouldn't have been doing what he was doing."

Typical British attitude imo. Turning a blind eye to bigger problems and targeting the little man.

Thank you :) indeed it was cod (and strike back)where I saw the similar gun being called a SA80 :(.

Is the BIKINI alert raised in summer? :D.

When people ask if the guns are loaded I'd assume they're asking if there's a round loaded into the chamber, not whether or not it has an empty magazine attached.

You've got to be a right sour faced **** to complain about that.

Poor guard will be bored out of his mind standing around for hours on end. Who can blame him for trying to amuse himself?

No, Between 2000 and 2001, my regiment the 1st Battalion, Devonshire and Dorset Regiment served as a public duties battalion in London, which included providing the Queen’s Guard at Buckingham Palace, live ammunition was never issued.

If you got over the fence, you would be confronted with 2 guardsmen armed with bayonets and yes they are sharpened, at the end of the day these are professional soldiers on a tour of duty with very specific rules of engagement, get in their way and you will be moved aside :D.

Bikini state was removed a few years ago now and yes the weapons are loaded, but the magazine contains no rounds.

One of the posters hit the nail on the head earlier on, 'there are standards to maintain'.

Yes, what he did was funny for joe public, but when he is out there on duty, he is meant to be protecting Royalty. What if this were 10 Downing St or the White House and the guards/police starting doing pirouettes etc? They would look unprofessional and not remaining vigilant or alert.

He won't get sacked (military don't get 'sacked') but there are specific orders relating to guards and sentry's and he will be in the brown sticky stuff big time.

Admin Action, Military charge, Jankers (a form of punishment), Colchester is an option if a little extreme!

But I do think his hierarchy will be fuming as he has embarrassed his regiment by his actions.

I'm sure that mucking about on duty is likely going to lead to punishment - let alone doing it in public at one of the worlds most popular places.

If I recall what I was told by a range marshall in Bisley when I was a Sea Cadet Instructer doing a shooting course. SA80 is abroad term covering all the L Series of weapons as it just means "Small Arms for the 80's"
Then each weapon group has its own designation, like the ones we used were L98A1's which were 5.56 full manual rifles with a shortened barrel

Anyway, thats not really what the topic is about, I think he should be reprimanded, but he shouldn't lose his job over this, perhaps dropped from guard duty for a while, or maybe given more guard duty depending if he likes doing it or not

*edit* got the weapon calibre wrong
