Hey guys, long time since I've posted here but glad to see this place is still a thriving hub of knowledge :)

I've finally given in and decided to build a new system (upgrading to Win7 so the time is probably right). To put it in context I'm currently on a Core2Duo E6750, Gigabyte EP45-UD3 and HD4870 and perfectly happy :D

I'm after a mid-range gaming spec; we're talking Skyrim and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, not Battlefield 3 at max spec. Having said that I want most of this to last for 3+ years, and I'll hopefully get around to playing Diablo 3 and the new Star Wars Battlefront next year...

OC wise not bothered, would rather save money than have the capability but the option is always nice for a boost further down the line.

A lot of this is based on the PC Gamer Rig, here's my thoughts:

GPU - R9 280 seems to be on par with the GTX 770 but much cheaper
CPU - don't want to spend anymore than this, would rather spend less
Mobo - pulled straight from PCG, any thoughts? I'm not after m.2 support, would like to save some more money here
Case - I've had black boxes for years and just really like the look of the orange DS200, not too bothered about noise, any other suggestions welcome
PSU - mostly used Corsair but seem to be a few questions about their quality now, any suggestions?
RAM - no idea! Seems much more expensive than I remember!
SSD - again no idea, M500 seems a reliable model, I just want to boot Win7 and a select few games, possibly Steam, quickly

I'm missing a better CPU cooler so any cheap suggestions there appreciated, and everything else I already have.

Love to hear your thoughts and suggestions, many thanks in advance :)

Heres similar set up, but with a better pre oced cpu and adequate cooler, just add a case you like :)

Hmm that looks very tempting, hadn't thought to look at bundles yet...many thanks for that.

Perhaps pushing my budget up a tad (originally said £500 to myself, ha!). Do you reckon 120GB is insufficient just for OS + a few games? I don't run much, 95% of my stuff can go on other drives.

that one is a 256gb, but yes 120gb fills up fast i have a 250gb and a 2tb mechanical for storage.

My friend has windows 8.1 and bf4 only on a 120gb and only has like 20gb spare, if you dont need super quick loading times just get a 2tb mechinal drive and add an ssd later

I was just tempted to get an SSD so I can boot windows fast, I use my PC for work too so it's nice to be able to jump into emails etc quickly. Suppose I can always just have the OS on the SSD and games on an HDD?

Ah yes Skilty I've been looking at exactly that mobo and CPU bundle...the ReFlex bundle is very good but it's about another £35 for an OC that I don't really need considering I wasn't even after a 4690K originally...

May even stick with the stock CPU cooler for the time being *shock!* or a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO for £20 or similar.

Is there much performance difference between the MSI and Powercolor 280s? Otherwise think I am about 99% there, many thanks guys :)

I have chucked a fair few games on but i have about 100 gig left from my 256 gig ssd (which the os is on)

I think if you want to remain within budget a couple of the component will have to be second hand. Also the 280 isnt on par with the GTX 770 i dont think? Its the 280x you are thinking off which is more expensive as well.

Also wondering why you want a 750w psu?

Awesome thanks guys think I am pretty much there and happy with this:

1 x Asus Z97-K - Devils Canyon Core i5 4690K Bundle **£14 Saving** £249.58
1 x MSI Radeon R9 280 Gaming 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £149.99
1 x Aerocool DS200 Orange Edition £74.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G1600HC9DC01) £65.99
1 x Crucial MX100 128GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT128MX100SSD1) £52.99
1 x Silverstone Strider Essential Bronze - 600W (SST-ST60F-ESB) £44.99
Total : £655.02 (includes shipping : £13.75).

I'm sourcing a better CPU cooler and some 140mm fans from a friend.

Only thing I'm not sure about is good quality cheap RAM - TeamGroup seems to be popular at the moment? I've had GeIL Black Dragon in the past and had issues with stability so was going to avoid that.
