OK what do you suggest I put on it besides a hand grenade?
The roof had a bit of a battering earlier this year when it ended up in next doors garden.

Possibly some new felt and some decent fence/shed paint and it should be good to go. Or some old engine oil cut with a little diesel paint it with that and it will last for ever (well not quite but for ages!)

was going to say don't bother with all those repellent paints, you want preservative instead, but its too late now :p

just saves having to do it every 1/2 years, instead doing it every 5/10.

as for felt, don't cheap out on it, for 8-10m lengths go for something 30-40kg in weight and it'll be half decent. don't bother with B&Q/Wickes etc, most of their stuff is pants.

Creosote and old engine oil - best thing in the world - keeps bugs out and rain runs off - my garage looked as good after 20 yrs as day I built it.

My shed at this place has been re- vitalised by jacking center of roof up from inside - making a triangulated wooden truss for middle to get rid of sag - new felt and above finish - looks like new

Just don't rub against it for month or so.

Real Creosote is available online - don't use water based rubbish.

Ronseal fence stuff is poor quality regardless of numbers written on the tin. Avoid anything watered down enough to be pushed through chinese sprayers in general. Out of cans immediately available in UK shops Sadolin is the only thing worth buying even though Sadolin range as stocked by DIY markets is not real Sadolin (proper danish AkzoNobel Sadolin/Pinotex product range on mainland continent is much, much better).

Out of cans available through internet Remmers or Tikkurila. Both unmatched, my garden studio exposed to elements and sun was painted with Remmers clear UV weather protection stain four years ago and shows no sings of wood fading anywhere. Fences and decking painted with Tikkurila Valtti several years ago still look good and solid. If not available try Sikkens through trade shops (Jewson).

Used Liberon decking oil on my shed and I'm very impressed so far. Will see how it lasts. Rain just runs off straight away, whereas before it would run off to start with and eventually start soaking into the wood.

I didnt want to go down the engine oil/ creosote route as I get sick of the smell after a while and I use my shed as a workshop.

I've just painted the outside of my shed with Cuprinol and it looks brand new.

Is it OK to paint the inside?

I want to paint it a light colour to make it bright and easy to find things but someone has suggested to me that painting both sides of the wood will seal in moisture and cause rot.

Do I or don't I?

Thanks!
