Dell plan a 27 inch 5120x2880 monitor

The new MacDaddy of the monitor world that with an incredulance laugh at 4K displays! I hope it hits a 60hz refresh rate and based on an IPS panel for super colors and great viewing angles.

Hmm, it's listed as 55 inch here?

I'll assume that the article is written by Hilbert Hagedoorn (SP?)........ that's all I have to say. You should really avoid that site.

That resolution seems a bit pointless on a 27" monitor...

Or is it just me?

Nope, Retina scaling for the win. Although Sadly Windows has horrible scaling option still. Hopefully windows 9 sorts it out.

I'm actually rather temped, and Apple might jump on these for Retina iMacs, and Cinema Displays as their scaling options are brilliant.

Hope they do a bigger 21:9 version.

Now you are talking fella! Although i am cooling off on it now because i personally believe Occulus will be refined to the point where it will be doing the same ultrawide 3d magic at half the cost of these big screens.

55" does make sense (making it 4 x 27" 2560x1440 panels), but at the bottom of the article is does say "The Dell UltraSharp 27 Ultra HD 5K Monitor is USD $2,499.99 and will be available in the fourth quarter of this year", so guessing the 55" is a mistake

Indeed, that would seem to make sense ;)

No more news on their 21:9 3440x1440 32" offering yet?

Yes, apparently it will be using the same curved panel as the new LG 34UC97. Still waiting for a product page with some more details on it though. :)

As for this '5K' monitor. I personally think it's there for Dell to boast about and to keep 'Retina' fans happy. I don't really see it as a very practical resolution, especially on a Windows machine currently. It's really hard to push that many pixels at '4K' (UHD) in games let alone '5K' and things are really tiny natively on a ~27" display with that resolution. Nice to see things moving forward, but personally I'd like to see some more solid UHD models first.

Nice, will have to see the curve in person I think. It's hard to visualise whether it will be a nice feature in the flesh

wow. Shame its 27" though. if it was 32" i would be getting a loan to buy one lol

Mmmm...yeah, seems like you'd want a nice big 32" to spread out all them pixels a bit

I can't wait for this to come out, all the pixels most people will ever need.

If Dell don't take 12 months to get this to market and it comes with adaptive or freesync I'll buy one.

14.7 million pixels. Lovely jubbly!

Looks like this coming out in time for Christmas I just hope they don't lump us with a sloppy TN panel.

I'm fairly sure it will be an LG Display AH-IPS one. It's also got a glossy (anti-reflective) screen, quite a lot of image quality potential.
