Motorcyclists Last Seconds Captured On GoPro

Controversial but.

THINK BIKE - THINK IDIOT

This will save more lives as 90% of bikers are idiots on the road and every driver should be aware of making allowances for them.

i would like to know your source.. oh wait thats the cage driver of ball society that you got them stats from.

Careless driving charge is a bit ott really, if the biker had been going 60mph he would not have hit the car, it would have passed by. It would be unreasonable to expect a driver to be able to judge a turn like that when someone is going in such excess of the speed limit, so even had she been paying more attention and saw the bike she probably would have made the turn anyway. One motorist here made a mistake, another was consistently driving in a reckless manner and the former gets prosecuted, now that's justice lol.

I've had another look

I think he could have avoided the car

Gas on

On

Gas off. Notice road position

Off

Impact position

Position

He's moved a fair amount across the lane. If he had moved to the other side and the car had kept going this may not have been news

I think he had realised the potential and started to lift. Obviously then wanting to distance himself just in case the car pulled across him. I think at that point if the car had pulled across earlier he would have moved to the right

almost everyone I know who rides a motorbike regularly has had at least one potentially serious accident... I think riding one at that speed on a public road, when coming up to a junction is a bit reckless...

Having said that the driver clearly wasn't paying attention/didn't look properly - it was quite right for them to charge her... if he'd been doing the speed limit then he'd still have quite plausibly had an accident if put in a similar position in the road at the point the driver started to turn... granted he may have had more time to react/break and a lower risk of death as a result too but the dangerous driving was still there from the car driver regardless of the reckless speed by the biker.

Think ignorant car driver think complete ****. I agree that's what I think of most car drivers.

Completely fair comparison methinks ;)

You don't drive a car do you? Hope you don't take offence...

I guess he was hoping the car driver would see and stop... driver pulling out is one thing, but if she was paying attention and slammed on the brakes when pulling part way across the lane he may have been able to skirt past her on the left hand side, unfortunately she just carried on going oblivious to him :(

just having looked at a set of yamaha fj 1300 clocks, it would appear he hit the car at 70 / 80 taking in over read of 10% min. would have been low 60s / mid 60's

+1

This would be my guess also.

The presumptuous nature of this forum is quite eye opening, the amount of posters that have refereed to the driver as a she clearly share the same observant skills as the driver.

It wasn't a her, it was a him (I initially thought it was her too, from something I mis-read)

“Benjamin Austin, the driver of the vehicle that struck David Holmes, ultimately pleaded guilty to causing a death by careless driving. He was subsequently ordered to perform 130 hours of unpaid work. His driver’s license was also suspended for 18 months.”

He shouldn't have been going at that speed but also the driver should have waited. To say if the biker was going slower would have saved him is neither here nor there. He should have waited before crossing over. If the biker was going slower but had still hit the car there was a good chance he could have been killed anyway. If he had hit the car further down the side he would have been thrown head on into the side of the car and not over it like he seems to there.

A cousin of mine was killed when a car pulled out in front of him and he was not going any where near that speed, the impact on the side of the car is what killed him and the driver should have stopped at that junction as well but didn't.

Don't do that speed, stop before taking a turning. Errors on both parts.

How can the driver say they didn't see the bike, it's what 50 yrds?

Hope they get sent down for manslaughter

I posted an opinion based on the video, I've not read any articles about the incident - only a few forum posts where the driver was referred to as a she... it wasn't a presumption on my part.

Whatever, the biker was going waaaaaaaaaaaay too fast anyway! Like lightning and would have been a blur to most motorists!

It doesn't matter whether he was doing 20mph, 50mph, or 100mph if the car driver cannot SEE at 50 yrds, let alone judge the time/space they had, then they shouldn't be on the road.

Even if the biker was riding at 40mph, from 50 yards away the car driver would still have pulled across and still be hit by the bike. The biker would have just reduce his chance of death somewhat.

The lack of judgement caused the crash, they have admitted it to the Police, and now hopefully they will be done for manslaughter

Hes not static though at 50 yards is he? He's a narrow object heading straight on, travelling at 45m per second. I'm not saying its impossible to see him but its not as simple as viewing a static image at 50yrds and saying he's clearly visible, its not that straight forward.
