What to expect when you are given incorrect information

Why do you feel the store owes you anything?

Offering to price match the item fair enough. compensating you for moving a couple of car seats and bore your children for a couple of hours no.

stores in general make their own rules and pretty much ignore customer services, most stores will not price match or get out of it anyway they can simply because discount targets upper management put on them are ridiculous, unfortunately you have been the victim of this.

Buy from store b, take purchase immediately to store a and waive it in the manger's face, then produce bill for your wasted time and fuel. ;)

Hehe, here's my butthurt story:

Here's mine.
B and Q had an offer on for a picnic table, checked the stock at my local store which had 1 left so I reserved to collect. Got the kids in the car (11 and 6 at the time) halfway there got a call from the store saying they were out of stock. I carried on with the journey (also 7 miles) took the kids to McDonald's then round a mates house for a cup of tea. I also decided not to start a thread on an internet forum about it or tell anyone about it until now as I really didn't need advice on what to do. I'm still a customer there.

Do I have a case for demanding something free or is 4 months out of timescale?

Yours
Flopsy

It is not the cost that makes me want some sort of compensation.

If I add the time on the phone, getting the kids sorted (toileted, rain coats, seats moved to van, kids into van), return trip to the shop and time wasted in the shop. I'd find I had just wasted about 2+ hours of my Saturday afternoon, plus some of the kids Saturday afternoon for nothing.

Then the fact that I now need to either sort this out tomorrow, or order from the other store. If I order from the other store I will not be able to collect it till next weekend because I work from 7:30am till approx 9pm everyday.

Just because it isn't intrinsic to my basic survival doesn't mean they haven't massively put me out, wasting mine and my kids time.

How essential was it that you got it today?? Since you coulda have got it at store B tomorrow anyway, seems like you went to a whole load of hassle to get it today, all that time on the phone etc to try get them to price match.

If CS are feeling generous they will offer the price match, I have a funny feeling they will tell you told bolt, even for the price match tbh.

Clearly your time isn't very valuable as you can spare the time to whine about a mild inconvenience on the internet. Therefore your time isn't worth compensation so I'm not sure what the problem is.

He could bill them for that time as well. Thinking about it I read this ****, I too want compensation!

As others have already alluded to, price matching can sometimes be a difficult issue, as while its advertised, it often has to ratified by a head office and there are typically stores they will and won't match, all kinds of terms and conditions etc.

If you really feel you have been hard done by, why are you even considering to still give the store your custom? Take your money elsewhere... it sounds like perhaps you can get it elsewhere for the price you want, but just won't be able to have it tomorrow.

I'd put patience and pride above the haste of wanting whatever it is.

Yes you have been messed about by store A so don't buy from them if you can get the same from elsewhere again. I understand the frustration but what do you expect beyond perhaps an apology?

You will get a price match and an apology for the confusion if you're lucky. Compensation for time? Get over yourself.
