DVI vs. HDMI - 120Hz monitor

Hi guys,

I appear to be getting lots of interference/lines (see other thread) when I output at 120/144Hz and now I seem to be getting even more since using an HDMI cable out to my TV.

I'm trying different things but ultimately I like to end up with my monitor running at 120/144Hz and HDMI outputting to my TV - with no interference...

I've got 2x DVI to HDMI adaptors so I could use those with HDMI cables attached but I won't be able to use my monitor at 120/144Hz will I? Also, is there much difference refresh rates aside with gaming/media playback/general desktop use?

Or is my card just faulty

I am not aware of any TV which supports 120/144 Hz, so I'm guessing that's the issue.

(and before there may be many posts saying 'of course there are, etc.', TV's which say they are higher than 60 Hz are actually limited to 60 Hz but use frame interpolation to up the rate to higher than that, and you can't actually feed them a signal higher than 60 Hz. To my knowledge this is ALL TV's, even ones which say 400 Hz or more.)

EDIT: So I looked into this a bit more, and the following companies have SOME definite true 120 Hz or 240 Hz TV's in their ranges - Vizio, Sony, Sharp, LG.

Other companies are unknown as they are not transparent about their TV's specifications, so what make/model is your TV OP? And I'll see if I can determine what its real refresh rate is.

EDIT 2: Oh and also only HDMI 1.3 or later supports 1920x1080 at 120 Hz, so if your TV has HDMI before that then you can't do it.

Hello any links to these TV with 120hz?

It isnt relevant, he is only trying to get 120hz on his monitor, not on the TV, the problem is hes getting corruption on the desktop on his monitor when set to high refresh

Op, try getting hold of a display port cable and run the monitor via that instead
