Motorcyclists Last Seconds Captured On GoPro

I was talking to some motorcyclists at work last night, and they had this same 'live by the sword, die by the sword' mentality saying that if they didn't speed, motorcycling would be boring, telling me they hoon everywhere at 120mph and they really didn't care if the same happened to them!

Shame really as they were nice guys. But the sooner they are off the roads, the better imo.

That's not how I use my bike.

It's not a sports bike by any stretch, but it will do 0-60 in under 4 seconds and has a top speed of 130 odd, but I just go out sight seeing on sunny days with the wife on the back.
Last time we went out we did a 100 mile round trip just to have a sandwich and a glass of coke at the seaside.
You don't have to ride like a dick just because you can.

You sound like me that's what I prefer to go off exploring and going to nice places. It aint about the speed, I have a triumph tiger 800xc and that has a top speed of 140. I have gone fast but I guess I don't get the pleasure that a lot of bikers get from it.

I have a Tiger 800xc as well.
Shows how much attention I paid to the top speed lol.

It was black and was called Tiger, take my money!

I assume if the Motorcyclist was to have been traveling at 60 mph he would have still hit the driver doing the dangerous maneuver?

Therefore bad driver + idiotic motorbiker for reckless " suicidal" speed. Both sides at fault.

I have a lot of sympathy for the car driver.

The guy in the video had just finished a track day, took that speed on to the road and was riding pretty irresponsibly from start to "finish".

He is also a text book motorcycle accident:

Excessive speed for the conditions (in this case approaching a junction)
Right of way violation.
He wasn't particularly visible ie- grey motor bike, grey day, no high visibility clothing on a grey road.
Lack of anticipation by the rider.

55% of all motorcycle accidents happen at junctions and it's not just a case of drivers failing to look but rather failing to see the motorcyclist as in this case.

Grey bike, grey day, grey road, approaching at excessive speed from behind a grey car.

It's 6 seconds between over taking the corsa and hitting the car at the junction.

That's not a lot of time for the driver to see him, from coming behind the car, the driver probably clocked the corsa, (didn't see the bike as he was currently behind the corsa at a distance away) started to move off at a reasonable speed, was looking into the junction as he was driving into it and bang, some idiot on a bike tools into the front of him.

Yeah. Except the driver admitted to not seeing the corsa either.

You get worst punishment for letting your dog crap on the pavement :(

Sorry but the death of the motorcyclist was caused by him going too fast! If he had been going 30 mph he would have in all likelihood survived! He obviously didnt give too hoots for the law and if someone had stepped in front of him with a kid in a pram he would have been up for a serious punishment if he had hit them, if he had even survived that at the speed he was going!

He died by his actions. Yes, the car driver went a bit too far but the biker was going so fast that even he could not react to the car!

Funny how it says 'SLOW' just before the junction and that would be for people observing the speed limit. This guy was driving at 90+ bloody mental and ruined that drivers life.

If the biker had been doing 60, he would have been a hell of lot further back down the road and missed the Clio completely.

That's not a reasonable argument. If the car driver had given his mum a goodbye kiss before setting out, then he wouldn't have hit the biker. That doesnt make it his mum's fault. (and, with his driving style, some other poor soul might have been clobbered instead!)

And a 'SLOW' on the road is a reactive thing that the highways agency do if there have been bad accidents before. To hoon it at 100mph where there is a SLOW is suicidal (unfortunately literally in this case).

Had it been some chav doing 100mph in a car then I'm sure attitudes would be a lot different.

Yeah. Except the driver admitted to not seeing the corsa either.

If you look at the junction from the BBC reporter is in the video in the OP, it's no surprise.

It's not up for debate, if he had ridden responsibly (and that's the key word here) he wouldn't be dead.

One of the members of this very board had an accident on London bridge where he hit a pedestrian with his motorbike and was speeding.
He got a custodial sentence I do believe.

In my mind the biker is at equal fault, doing 90+mph in full black and a grey bike.

Should it be illegal not to where a florescent jacket and helmet on either a push or motorbike? I think so. and all bikes should be limited 70mph.

Just look at the distances covered by the respective vehicles in these images.
