Why are we promising anything? Our negotiating position should be that Scotland will be even less of a proper country after independence than it is as part of the union :D.

Surely, we hear all these things about "separatists" in different countries and how they seem to be treated as terrorists ... how's that different to this? Surely if they do try to leave we should just carpet bomb Glasgow (which would probably put the house prices up there)

:p

Scotland is going to end up in a mess either way if the vote is 50/50 as there will be a lot of very unhappy people.

My only concern is for the people on the losing side, as it will represent almost half of the population either way.

This is going to be a real tipping point for Cameron - he'll either just scrape through this or he'll go down in history as the prime minister that presided over the break up of the union...

On the plus side for the Tories... if Scotland does breakaway then from that point on they're pretty much going to dominate politics. They've then got the problem of an EU referendum... another big gamble - could end up with wanting to break away form the EU... which in turn could lead a left wing Wales to want to break away from England.

I reckon the North of England could become the biggest loser in all of this if Scotland gains independence... a Tory dominated Westminster is not likely going to be in their interests at all.

The UK is already tiny. Comments like "Why should Scots accept London rule?" are a joke. Look at countries like the USA.

Not necessarily... their interests aren't always in line tbh.. they've consistently hardly voted Tory at all yet at various periods have been stuck with a Tory govt who's policies have gone against the views of the vast majority of the population. A devo max option should really have been offered as we're now in a precarious situation where they might well breakaway.

I find it discouraging that the yes supporters are acting like national front volunteers with racist chanting, bullying tactics and openly stirring anti English feeling.

What you also have to realise is that Wales is watching this unfold with baited breath and may also want independance depending on the outcome.
