Well my renewal came through at about the same price as I'm currently paying, so I did my annual comparison site check, and found an identical policy for almost half what I'm paying, and it's with Hastings, the same broker I'm already with.

With it being the same company is it easier/safer (to prevent mix ups) to cancel my current policy and set the new one up as a new customer, or call them and ask them to match their own price

Anyone done this before?

Thanks

I do something similar every year, you dont have to cancel your policy, just say you got a cheaper quote online and give the reference number, they then renew you with that cheaper price. This is with Admiral though.

It depends on the insurer really. The gf had it last year with Shelia's Wheels where they wouldn't renew at the price they'd quoted on a comparison site, so we had to cancel the policy and then take the cheaper one out as a new customer.

Done it loads of times, phone them and cancel the renewal and take out the new policy. The fun is when they ask for you to forward your NCD to them and you can say they already have it there, they just don't seem to understand what you have done sometimes.

I did this with admiral and they forgot to cancel my current one and had me insured on the same car twice with 2 different policies.

Make sure they cancel your current haha

Home rather than car insurance, but I do this pretty much every year with Halifax. Usually the people on the phone find it hard to believe I've got such a low quote online and try and persuade me that the level of cover isn't as good as the renewal (sometimes there may be a slight difference but not enough to warrant the discrepancy in premium).

Well I got my new policy confirmed, £20 per month as opposed to the renewal quote of £46 per month! same company lol!

Called them up and they said they would cancel the current policy and renewal, Just have to remember to check my bank statement at the end of the month but pretty happy with that!

I could have had it for £18 per month with an extra £100 excess, but I thought, sod it, total excess is now £200. :)

Odd that people using admiral have had them cancel the renewal and switch to a new policy - every year with me they just match the online quote but keep the same policy number etc.

Not that it makes much difference mind

My renewal price came through as £1750... I phoned them up, and after a few minutes of talking, it was down to £750. :p
