Northern Lights holiday

Canada. First and only time I've seen the Northern Lights. Plus Canada is awesome in the daytime time too.

I'd stay away from Iceland right now, perhaps Norway or Sweden? It's something I'd like to do before the current Solar Max wanes, but I've not done any research yet...

Yes, stayed in the little village of Porjus in Northern Sweden a few years back.

Rented one of the apartments from here. Flew into Stockholm via Amsterdam. Night at Stockholm airport (Arlanda), then an internal flight to Gallivare.

Also went dog sledging (awesome - just two of us and our guides out in the middle of nowhere) plus snowmobiling.

My friends went to Svalbard and had a fantastic time there. Northern lights were glorious.
Shame I missed it :(

Levi in Finland?

We went a couple of years ago and saw them. It's also a ski resort so cheaper deals can also be found. There are also options to snowmobile, snowshoe, dog sled etc and various bars.

Alternatively there are plenty of companies that'll take you, explore and exodus being two, although the price will be significantly higher.

Stayed twice in northern Finland. Saariselka and Muonio. Had an amazing time but saw virtually nothing of the lights. The was in Feb both times. I suspect it depends on the time of the year and also (obviously) the level fo solar activity which goes through phases of high and low activity.

I'm just looking at a weekend away with this lot, they talk about the lights but I don't know if it's realistic to see.

In winter if the sky is clear and there are particles then it would be realistic...

It's like anything else though, it could be cloudy the entire time you're there, or there isn't a storm on and you'll see nothing, or you see spectacular lights every night all night.

Out of interest how much is the trip? Some of those look interesting as a bolt on to a spring trip but I'm guessing they are VERY expensive.
