Just saw this, disgusting the brutality some people are capable of just because of someone's sexuality.

However, my question is how on earth is he still alive!? The hammer is deep in his head, and he's had massive amounts removed...

Is there an article anywhere describing the extent of the brain damage? Must be horrific surely!

It's a blunt instrument and the brain is squishy, will largely just compress it rather than damaging it. Sound like he had substantial brain injury though.

Yes, the x-ray really is shocking. It's really in there, I would have thought that's a certain death...

And the reason is just all the worst; it's not as if it was even a crime of anger in the heat of the moment (which I obviously don't condone). This was a cold, premeditated attack with intent to murder.

:(

Holy crap. How did he survive that . I'm no neurosurgeon but I'd have thought that would have ended him.

Edit: yeah I'm being an idiot never mind.

IIRC to some extent the brain can continue functioning if the damage is limited to only 1 of the hemispheres - obviously going to be a massive lost of memory (I think long term memories are mostly stored on the other side but I'm no expert) or functionality, etc. but fortunately the brain can recover from some pretty massive damage.

Absolutely horrifying though, so sad some people can't just live and let live.

Does it mean something else I don't know? .

To be fair I screwed up anyway and I put would "of" :( dammit.

No no, not at all.

I say 'ended' all the time, in the same context you used it. All comes from the old school game Kingpin, your character used to say 'I will end you' to the bad guys.

Sickening attack / picture.

Kind of reminds me of what happened to poor Joe Orton (though under different circumstances).

Indeed.

If he wasn't seen to, the teenager would have likely suffered the same fate. Reading about how Orton survived for several hours before death, I can't begin to imagine the awful pain up to his death (and the pain this teenager must have suffered also).

14 years seems pretty low... IMO we seem to have pretty low sentences here for a whole range of violent crimes, he's drastically changed someone's life and nearly took it from them... he should be sentenced to a longer term and actually serve 14 years or so... as it stands he'll be out before he's 30

Is the gay part important?

it was part of the motivation for the attack seemingly

There was a couple kids a few years back went on a murder rampage and recorded their killings and uploaded them to the internet. They used hammers and screwdrivers and targeted homeless people. I've watched a lot of gore videos on the internet over the years, but nothing prepared me for watching someone cave another persons skull in with a hammer and then stab them in the eye with a screw driver. I couldn't even watch the whole video. I had to stop it. My blood ran cold and I just sat there thinking "wtf". I think it's cause these kids were doing it for a laugh is what made it so ****ed up.
