VVTL-i Owners

Anyone up for a Toyota exclusive trackday? We've managed to commandeer a Javelin day at Blyton park on 19th July on the day before one one the Sprint Series rounds

http://www.javelintrackdays.co.uk/t...art&page=shop.browse&category_id=835itemid=11

We've got quite a bit of interest from the various MR2 forums where the idea has originated but we'd like to get as many models/clubs involved as possible and try to fill the day up with a nice range of cars so please spread the word if your active in any of the many Toyota clubs/forums and obviously sign up if trackdays are your thing!

I am 99% sure I will attend this one a) my brithday is on the 18th and b) I have 3 weeks holiday during this period! I will be there in my GT4!

There was only 500 made, they aren't as reliable as the standard T-Sport according to some discussions I've read and they experience suspension issues

Theres been a few quarter mile runs that I've read about on the forums where they are only very slightly quicker if at all than the standard T-Sport too

Still, a nice example of one would make a nice rare model car

They have a few cosmetic changes to the standard t sport. As said they aren't meant to be as reliable but they have got a supercharger which sounds awesome.

I had a celica t sport vvtli before my s2k

Comfy as anything but too many problems with it made me get rid

Yeah I've been looking at them. They have 2 corollas or have done at least 2 with cams. A few people on the corolla forum have them fitted. I'm looking at buying them and getting them fitted else where so I don't need to foot the petrol cost.

What problems did you have? They do have some irritating little problems but nothing that would stop it from driving

Radiator went
Manifold went
Alloys were all buckled (no way should they have been, damn fond metal)
Those aren't too bad.. For the above it was mainly the Toyota servicing that was awful.. Dunno if it was just that garage. The bill was 1k for potentially

Said no, did radiator at home, cheaper and better than Toyota, none of the wheels were buckled from my local garage

Why I sold it, 3rd gear was getting very... Raspy. By that time I was a bit wary of a gearbox issue.

This probably isn't bad compared to some people's car woes. But my s2000 is a cut above it and an older car. Never had an issue with it

In general it was a good car, the lift range being only 2k revs was frustrating tho, and it was a bit drab when not in that

I form attachments to my cars, once I fall out of love with them I no longer enjoy the car.

I know what you mean I'm the same and want rid of it but mine is riddled with cosmetic issues rather than mechanical, the front under tray decided it didn't want to stay on the car anymore and peeled off from the front bumper on the motorway, now the bumper is sagging slightly and the plastic grill wont line up properly

The parcel shelf rattles really loudly, one of the calipers sounds like its sticking slightly and one of the of exhaust heat shields vibrates, getting in and out of it in car parks gets on my nerves but when I get to have some fun I do really enjoy it and it serves a purpose as a car but I want a newer more refined car soon plus I refuse to pay the £600 insurance due in January

having had 3 vvtli and 1 vvti
all of them had the rad go. £50 to change + 30 for genuine coolant.
under trays are useless after being removed a few times.
2nd gear mesh can go * like on a lot of cars*
brake calipers can stick * like any car*

The only fault I've had with my corolla was the waterpump. Cost me £20 + £20 for coolant. Rest is just general wear and tear stuff. Plus I bough the car with a faulty water pump as the person selling it didn't know what the fault was and thought it would be costly.

What is the 1ZZ-FE engine like?

I know you miss out on the fun of lift, and 50 ponies, but apparently the 140PS Celica is still a good motor, and a few review sites recommend it over the 190PS because they don't think the extra power makes much difference in the "real world"

Long story short, 1ZZ-FE Celicas are really cheap to insure, and if there's nothing wrong with them, I would quite like one. (the 2ZZ-GE is getting on for twice as much to insure) :p

2ZZ or do not bother. the 1ZZ is just about bearable in the MR2. It is even worse in the Celica. If you can not insure the 2ZZ try a generation 6 import GT. They are 177PS pure motor and you might be surprised on the quotes plus they cost peanuts to buy.

As above, it's horrible in the Celica - the lighter MR2 has the balance to just about pull it off (plus no roof), in the celica its a total disappointment.

I dunno if I'd spend anything more than a few hundred on a gen 6 now, but in fairness the likes of an SS3 still looks good to me. Then again if I could find a non rusty one the mk2 mr2 is still a better car :p
