Dear overclockersuk users,

I've attempted to build a £1400 config.
  • I am going to use this computer for Video Gaming, occasional video editing (nothing hardcore at all), work, office stuff, etc...
  • I already have an OS.
  • I think I want a μATX because my room is not very big, and I may move in the future, but maybe it's not a good choice, I don't know!
  • Also, I don't know if I want / should overclock.

> Can you give me your opinion about the config? Is there is anything non-compatible, overkill, too expensive, not of a good quality...?

Thanks in advance, your comments are very valuable to me :)

Thank you @stulid @therealpieman @Geo-Gamer, you guys are so useful :)
  • I don't need an OS as I'll re-use my current Windows (I've updated the post)
  • For the screen, I picked the U2414H because it's an IPS with 178° viewing angles, is that unecessary? Screens are so hard to pick!
  • i5 (3.5Ghz) vs i7 (4.0Ghz): I understand your comments, however I feel like 500Mhz is quite a good boost?
  • Power unit: @stulid you've put a 850W, are you saying that 650W is really not enough?

Thats not a problem :)

Talking about the screen you mentioned you wanted the system for gaming? The screen you chose is 8 ms where as the screen i chose is 1ms and 144hz. A lot better for games especially fps games. I can never go back to a 60HZ screen once playing on my 144HZ especially on bf4, its worth looking into. May I ask what games you play?

CPU'S can both be overclocked to around 4.4/4.5 GHZ so wont exactly matter. Unless you have use for Hyper Threading? If it was me I would get the i7 as games in the future have been said to start using it. You have already mentioned you occasionally video edit which the Hyper threading can be used there. Your still under budget so the the extra £80 on the i7 bundle can be put there :)

650W PSU is more than enough for your setup. Especially the 80 Gold Plus I linked. 850W will be good for SLI/CF builds. Setting up 2 GPU'S is up to you. I have seen mini Atx setups with 2 GPU'S and its fine if you have good airflow.

Ok, thank you very much.

I've looked again at all of this now that I'm back from holidays :) and here is the config I've made, let me know what you think:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus Z97 Gryphon Armor - Devils Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Micro ATX Motherboard Bundle **£24 Saving** £370.98
I still want µATX, I like the Gryphon armor, and I'm happy to add £80 for the i7 instead of the i5

1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11227-00-40G) £289.99
This is where I'm not so sure anymore: I've seen the new range of Nvidia, should I switch for them?

1 x Dell UltraSharp U2414H 24" Widescreen LED Slim Bezel Monitor - Midnight Grey £199.99
I want a high quality screen (IPS), I'm ok with 8ms response, and 60Hz. Maybe I'll buy a second screen later if I want a TN 144Hz.

1 x Samsung 500GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE500BW) £179.99
Speaks for itself :)

1 x Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB (2x8GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX24C11T3K2/16X) £129.95
Speaks for itself :)

1 x Corsair Gaming CGK70 Red LED Backlight Keyboard Cherry MX Red Switches - Black (CH-9000069-UK) £109.99
MX Red is perfect for gaming.

1 x Corsair RM Series RM 550 '80+ Gold' 550W Power Supply (CP-9020053-UK) £79.99
550w seems enough for my config isn't it? I want the full modular. I know Corsair doesn't make OEM in terms of PSU, but I'm ok with this. I'll buy an other one if I want to do crossfire.

1 x Corsair Obsidian 350D Micro ATX Case - Black (CC-9011028-WW) £75.95
I swapped for the non-glass one, as it will be in my room, so I want to sleep without too much light :)

1 x Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £14.99
Speaks for itself :)

Total : £1,475.94 (includes shipping : £20.10).

Thanks!!!

You don't like Samsung? :P

I have 3 remaining interrogations before I buy:
1. Do you know if it's possible to ask for an AZERTY keyboard to OCUK? Otherwise I'll have to order from France :D
2. I completely agree with the 750w, however, let's say I never buy an other graphics card, will it have an impact on my energy bill?
3. Do I need to add a CPU cooler?
4. I don't really trust Teamgroup... Is it really worth swapping the RAM just for 2666Mhz instead of 2400Mz? Does it really make a big difference?

Thaaaaaaaaaaanks :)

I dont mind Samsung, just that the MX range are still good and cheaper.

Dont know about keyboard, pretty sure they are all qwerty UK at ocuk.

For a single 970/980 a good 550w+ will be fine and a better match to keep the psu more efficient.

Maybe or maybe not need a cooler, up to you.

You will only notice the difference from 2400-2666 in benchmarks.
