5 million Gmail accounts & passwords leaked

Surprised this hasn't been posted already, 5 million Gmail email addresses and passwords have been leaked online. There's a text file which contains all of the email addresses, but I can't find the one which contains the passwords, so no idea which ones I need to change, because mine was unfortunately on that list.

Site is down, also not useful since the first characters of my passwords are all the same, it's just the end which has alterations, so not sure which need to be changed and which dont! :mad:

Edit: Working now, old password of mine thank god!
 
It's not actually "hacked" as most articles suggests, the data they have is compiled from years of Phishing efforts. It's also out of date by a number of years it seems.

If you haven't been an idiot and put your password into places you don't recognise, you should be fine.

Google itself didn't get hacked, but it's from others sites.

Judging from my password that they have, the one of mine was from when EA got hacked absolutely ages ago.
 
Mine was hit. I knew it for a while. Someone had logged into my account. Pretty sure ive got it all sorted now. enabled two step verification now aswell.

Argh that would make sense. Good thing I only use my gmail for certain google services then :).

So main issue is if people using the same password for different accounts.
 
Mine was on it too, thankfully the first 2 letters of the password it shows are from one that's been changed a few times since.
 
As above.. If Google had actually been "hacked" then this would be a much larger news story.

It's more likely that a somebody has gone through a compilation of all email/passwords leaked from poorly secured websites and filtered for gmail only.

You're asking for trouble if you use the same password for your email as you do for any other website anyway!
