Dual monitor colour difference problem

Hi,

12 months ago I bought an Asus MX239h monitor. Think it's great so this week, I purchased a second to replace the Samsung TV that doubled up as a second monitor.

Problem is, the colours on the new monitor are way off the old. My original monitor is much much more vibrant. White actually looks white and the light that's emitted by the monitor must be twice as bright as the new monitor.

I've checked and double checked everything, nothing is making a difference. Setting changes on the monitor aren't helping.

Should I return the new monitor and get another or buy 2 new monitors at the same time, hopefully from the same batch, to eliminate discrepancies in production?

How are they connected? If one is hdmi and the other isn't, your pc could be outputting limited rgb to the hdmi one, giving colour differences

Interesting. I thought the same so I tested. I've got one on DVI and one on HDMI. However, when I swap them over, it's the same. So the one monitor is bright and vibrant on DVI and HDMI and the other's white's are off-white and dull despite being DVI and HDMI.

What did you use to calibrate them?

I could never get my three screens (same model but purchased over three years) to match until I bought myself a x-rite calibrator. With that they're spot on.

I'm still using an old i1Display 2.

If you haven't got enough adjustment range where are you starting from?

If you care about them matching more than you care about them been 'right' can't you just miscalibrate them by the same amount?

I've got to have as pure white as possible. I develop websites so having good colours is kinda important.

I'm starting with everything pretty much maxed and it just gets worse from there. Think I'm going to return the monitor and buy 2 new ones. Hope that I get them close. Or go somewhere so I can see them running perhaps.

I've found that I've needed to start with the RGB channels set to about 60% to allow for enough adjustment range. It just means you need to increase the Brightness to compensate.

I've got brightness cranked up to 100%. Dropping RGBs as you say, means I can barely see anything and with no more brightness, not good.

I can not get a pure white colour no matter what I try. :(

What colour temperature/gamma/luminance are you trying to calibrate to?

Most people seem to run their monitors stupidly bright (that's how they tend to ship). When I first started using a calibrator everything did seem very subdued, but I soon got used to it.

Warm temp, cool or neutral looks horrendous. Gamma is around mid point. No amount of fiddling gets white to look white. I've even gone to extremes and cranked everything up to try and get white but without success.
