** 290X ONLY £269.99: ONLY 100PC!! **

Ah so 770's EoL aswell as 780's i take it :)
Now we just need the 760/780ti/titan replacement to be announced

770 will remain as at £229 for 2Gb and £269 for 4gb it's way under what new cards will be price wise, it just won't be moving in price as simply no need as 1000's are sold by NVIDIA every week. :)

Thanks guys. Is it a worthy upgrade from a GTX680 2GB considering I only game at 1080p and have no plans of going higher? I think I can get around £180 for my GTX680 so that means I'm just adding £90 to get a 290X. <off to read the 290X Owners Thread>

Would really like some advice on this please

Get a custom cooled 290 (non X) instead (Sapphire Tri-X is only £260). The performance will be near enough identical outside of raw benchmark numbers and the card will run cool and quiet.

This is a great deal but the card really needs a better cooler to make the best of it.

Are the X versions the same but have higher clock speeds?

256 extra steam processors and ~50mhz boost to the core clock. That is it.

Overall performance clock for clock is around 5% in favour of the X. Real world performance in nearly identical.

EDIT: This is basically the same difference we saw with the 7950/7970 at the same clock speeds (and the 670/680 for that matter).

No, they have more stream processors too. However, the difference is minimal.

I see are the coolers that bad on the reference cards? I won't be overclocking it and when I decide to I'll get an after market cooler for it. I'm just finding my GTX680 isn't holding up the constant 60fps mark I want in the newer BF4 maps and latest games.

I'm probably not the best person to comment on the coolers as I haven't used one. That said, it is quite well known that they do not fit into the 'quiet' category of cooling performance. Some people say they aren't too bad, though.

In your shoes, I'd be going for this :

Just get one (290) that already has a decent cooler. There is little point in buying a reference 290X and then slapping a aftermarket cooler on it if the end result is basically what you can already get for £50-60 less factoring in the aftermarket cooler.

I had a reference 290X, the cooler is "ok" if it is kept below 50% fan speed but very noticable once you push past 60%. If you undervolt you can keep temps and fan speed in check to a certain degree.

Honestly though a Sapphire Tri X 290 is less than this 290X reference, has a much better cooler and will perform basically the same once you add 50mhz to the core clock.

Having read up a little more, and taking the advice of you guys in here, I just switched my order from the 290x reference to the Sapphire Tri x 290.

Thank you to the nice guy on the phone who very easily swapped my order out for me :)

for the people complaining about the heat , i think thats where the waterblock comes in i ordered mine with the razer block so im hoping its more worth it than the 290?

I'll run mine on air till i figure what case and which chip series to run

all gone :(

i was sitting umming and aahing about whether this would be an upgrade of my gtx770 (stupid i know)

snooze you lose
