(Some) iPhone 5 batteries to be replaced by Apple :)

If you paid for a battery replacement you can get a refund. But then you may not get another battery replacement as well, assuming the replacement isn't also faulty.
Problem is I didn't buy it from Apple. So, other than when they open it up and notice it may have been tinkered with either physically or by checking the battery serial, Apple don't currently know.

Mine is eligible too. Apple sent the diagnostics test thing to an email address on the phone and they then confirmed its the battery.
They told me there is still 45days of warranty left on the phone.

My closest Apple garage is about 40 miles away, so its not so handy getting there.
One option was to pay about £480 inc £29 ish for carriage by credit card, they would deliver a new iphone5, take the old one back, examine it for water damage or whatever, take whatever is needed to repair it and refund the rest back to my card.

If there is nothing wrong with the phone other that the faulty battery the money, minus the carriage cost will be refunded back to the card.

Not so sure I like that option.

I had my battery changed a week ago. The process took about 45 minutes and fortunately no data was lost in the process. This new battery is how it should be, with continuous 4G use it lasts half a day...the previous one would last 30 mins!

For clarification, the iPhone 5 I am using currently is a warranty replacement from Apple and they had no issues changing the battery. My original iPhone 5 (received on first day available) died within a week for an unspecified screen problem!

Just to clarify..my phone is not listed as eligible. Is just changing the battery going to cure this problem or do apple swap anything else?
Might do it myself.

I have no idea if they just change the battery or do any more. On the work sheet it just said it was a battery change (which apparently costs around £85 if you paid).

To test the theory, I let me battery discharge to 5% and it did not switch off, whereas previously it would shut down at anything around 30%. Strangely before if you put it on charge as soon as it shut down, it would start charging but the battery percentage would change....30% ..> ~38% on the charger.

Had mine done today, same process as others although the apple guy said that mine was in a really bad state, worse than others! Been using phone a lot since it was done and it's still on 92% \o/

Presumably you now have a new iPhone 5? Might be worth it for £29

It only taken apple 2 years find out they were selling mobiles that had a faulty battery... ............

Well they usually wait until the affected products edge towards 2 years old (so start to go outside consumer law claims) then they introduce a quality program to 'extend' the warranty for that particular fault.

Anything before that is just covered by warranty/consumer law

Says mine isn't eligable, I did get my phone phone replaced I think around a yeah ago due to a dodgey lock button. But just yesterday my phone switched off at 25%, the first time it's ever done that, normally manages 1% at least, will see if it happens again.
