Nation of meat eating animal lovers?

I think a lot of people would be happier to have their meat come from well treated animals, not least because a lot of the time it'll be better quality and tastier.

We could probably do with eating less meat and also eating a lot more of the 'undesirable' cuts and offal, because it's mostly delicious, but also because if you are going to kill an animal it's only right to eat all of it.

Offal is just foul, you can have my portion.

There are many examples of where food (non-meat) is wasted in general.

Like the ends of all the loafs of bread that make up the packaged sandwiches in your food retailers or supermarkets.

There are many parts of the animal treatment argument that I agree with but it's not going to stop me eating meat.

Generally, I source the meat I cook at home from a local butcher who gets it from a local farmer (or as local as it can be to London!)

Buy British and buy local then.

now I know why inverness is so depressing, we have a couple of places that sell steak, but our main restaurants are macDs, BKing and KFC....ugh terrible

Not that depressing really. You can always take your takeaway food just round the corner and have it deep fried. nom nom nom !

People have an utterly bizarre attitude towards animals and meat. The delusion runs so deep, that when you become aware of it, its quite shocking to see the 'things' you once missed. Who walks past a piece of roadkill on the side of the road and thinks 'mmmm, that will be a tastey pie', and yet the security scanners at my local supermarket are decorated with marketing boards depicting prime cuts of beef. Right at the entrance, a hunk of meat, from a once living thing, dressed for camera and proudly displayed.

The marketing of meat (prepared, dressed, artifically modified and photographed) is so far removed from the original animal, there is a cognative disconnect between the death of the animal and the end product. You wouldnt stand by and watch a piglet get thrown in to a blender for sausages. So why is it ok, so long as you don't 'know' its a piglet?

You don't advertise heart surgery by showing someone lying unconscious with their chest cut open and a tube down their throat - even though that's the reality - because it is unappealing. You don't advertise sewage treatment by showing a river of **** - even though that's the reality - because it is unappealing. And you don't advertise meat by showing slaughtered animals because it is unappealing.

True: if you believe it is immoral to kill an animal for food then it would be contradictory (bizarre, delusional) to simultaneously believe that it is OK to have an animal killed for you. The animal is dead because of you; that someone else did the deed is not morally relevant. However, if you don't think its immoral but just find the idea of killing an animal a bit unpleasant then it is not contradictory to ask someone who does not find it prohibitively unpleasant to do it for you. Similarly, I wouldn't want to watch or perform heart surgery. I have no desire to see someone poking around inside a person's chest, nor would I want to do it myself. That doesn't mean I'd refuse heart surgery if I ever needed it. There is no necessary paradox between not wanting to do something yourself and thinking it's fine for someone else to do it for you. It depends on the reason you have for not wanting to do it yourself.

Life is a precious thing for all animals, we all have only this one chance, and in the name of food and money some have nothing and for not very long.

And if it wasn't for people eating meat, the majority of those animals would never have existed in the first place.

We are fortunate to have meat alternatives now, hopefully this will progress and society will eventually shun meat eaters like smoking is now. It will take time but hopefully will happen.

I really hope not.

Unlike smoking, eating meat doesn't poison you, make you unfit, make you a huge burden on the NHS, and doesn't pollute the air around you making the environment disgustingly unpleasant for everyone else (although I guess you could argue the last point if you live in the countryside :p)

I'm doing my part.

I don't eat meat.

That's one less person taking the flesh of another animal unnecessarily.

The more that follow the better without a doubt. Fact.

That's good enough for me.

Now we are getting some where. Its about you, and how you feel, not the animal. It is very clear in this thread that you are ignoring the fact that you use many products tested on animals and those which directly derive from animals. If it was about the animals you would have taken steps to counter their use in your own life. As this would be difficult you don't. Instead you cut meat out your diet, consume dairy (but you feel bad about this so that makes you the better person) and continue spouting nonsense.

Like every other vegetarian I have met/listened to you are the hypocrite.

edit: anyone else now sitting at work/home thinking of going out and having a steak tonight! I feel like I'm starving now. See OP you just caused the death of another innocent creature you *******!

What a stupid comment.

If you had never been born would it have bothered you?

Something that has never existed can't feel remorse.

No it's not.

It's about people getting upset over 43 dogs being killed in an arson attack.

I'm trying to point out animal cruelty is all around us and much worse that what those dogs endured.

That's the entire point of this thread.

No your points in the other thread were about hypocrisy.

You have shown that you are no better, and are just as much as a hypocrite as the next person.

Sorry, but that is just the truth of it so the whole premise of this thread is pure irony.
