Some more info here on the Dell 5K 27" http://www.slashgear.com/dell-ultrasharp-27-ultra-hd-5k-monitor-arrives-in-q4-05344921/

Dell UltraSharp 27 Ultra HD 5K monitor arrives in Q4

The UltraSharp 27 Ultra HD 5K monitor is the more exciting offering, however, bring with it a 27-inch display with a resolution of 5120 x 2880,
Dell's PremierColor tech, edge-to-edge glass, and anti-smudge/reflection. The monitor has six USB ports, a storage card reader, and dual 16watt Harman Kardon speakers.

4K is not even established for gaming, it's still far from it. Anyone who currently games in 4K on a 4K monitor can also pipe down, you are a fraction of an already minuscule market.

5K is absolutely obscene for gaming and will be purely reserved for the desktop use space.

iv only just gone from a 22" 1680x1050 to a 24" monitor 1080p and it looks superb.
my desk is 2 foot depth, so I sit 3 feet away from my monitor, id need a desk about 6 foot in depth for a 55" monitor, it seems a bit stupid if you ask me.

We are entitled to an opinion the same as everyone else.

Having said that I would not recommend any hi rez panel that needs multiple inputs after seeing what a pain in the £$%^ MST is.

In defence of 4K I would like to point out something I noticed the other day. I needed to use my 1600p Dell 3011 monitor for the first time in a couple of months and what a shock I got when I did after using 4K. There was no contest when it came to image clarity, brightness, sharpness and all round quality the 4K monitor was that far ahead and I don't think I could go back to using 1080p or 1600p fulltime now. Even the boring Windows Basic desktop looked miles better on the 4K monitor. Don't forget as well the Dell U3011 is a half decent monitor and to see it get upstaged by that much with 4K was quite a surprise.

It's not about denying your opinion. It's that your opinion does not change the fact that 4K gaming is not established, and will not be for some time. A 0.0X% adoption of 4K is the gaming sector is not established.

As for 4K in desktop usage, I fully agree- 4K is absolutely fantastic for desktop usage. That, however, is not gaming.

Established or not is not the point, the question is what it can and can not do for anyone interested in using it.

For gaming it is absolutely fantastic if you do it right.:D:)

Just because it has a horizontal rez of 5000 doesn't make it a "K" standard...

Of course its the point.

GPUs are not going to heavily invest in 4K gaming until there is a target audience for it. Right now, there is not a target audience worth targeting.

Do you know what is also amazing? 5 screen surround on 4K monitors. Absolutely fantastic if you do it right :D:)

1440 is the sweetspot and will be for quite some time I reckon. 4k will take another few years to really become well worth buying. talking about 5k for gaming when 4k hasnt even been fulfilled yet makes me think wtf lol.

Of course, that's only the way I see it. I'm sure folks that have money to burn with tri titans or 290x will disagree, but that's just such a small minority. Think they just need to focus on insanely good 1440p panels, IPS with 120hz with incredibly low grey to grey times.

I imagine with a monitor like this you'd use 5120 x 2880 on the desktop and game at 2560 x 1440 as it would scale perfectly, the best of both worlds with the GPU power available at the moment.

This is probably the way things will go forward for larger 27"+ monitors as with 4K if you're on a 27"+ screen it wouldn't be a great experience to have to drop down to 1920 x 1080.

These will never take off until scaling is better in windows and refresh rates are better, there's too many sacrifices over lower resolution monitors right now.

Personally I think you are totally wrong there, 4K ready is the new watch word and many graphics card companies are already plastering it all over their boxes, just like CGA, VGA, SVGA, HD, full HD before it.

You think for one minute that Nvidia wont be advertising their new 970/980 for 4K usage, even though they probably wont cut it, then you my friend are very much mistaken.

There are enough people on these forums interested in 4K even if you are not.

As to using more than 1 screen I don,t like having bezels breaking up the image.

Having said that my Titans can run an 8K monitor on BF4 so there is no need to go the multi screen route.:p:D

I don,t thik that 5K Dell in the OP is worth bothering with but that does not mean Im right or I should ingore other peoples opinions.:)

It might be my 3 Henry Westons making me chuckle at this thread or more likely Sin_chase dislike for 4k because he wants it but can't afford the setup. Any-one that says 4k isn't ready I say save your pennies work harder and try it for yourself.
