Lets Forget 4k...Which GPU are best for 5K ?

I thought HDMI cables couldn't support 4k at 60fps, or am i behind with the times?

HDMI 2.0 does. But the specific Dell monitor above has 2 display ports.

Either way, 5120 x 2880 is not that difficult tbh. Without AA a CF 290X/295X2/ SLI Titan/SLI GTX780 6GB, might do it.

However, we are talking here about almost double the amount of pixels between 4K and 5120x2880 on a 27" screen, and even 4K at 28" looks bit daft

It might be my 3 Henry Westons making me chuckle at this thread or more likely Sin_chase dislike for 4k because he wants it but can't afford the setup. Any-one that says 4k isn't ready I say save your pennies work harder and try it for yourself.

4k is far from ready.

EDIT: Though that is 50% down to individual usage style and 50% down to hardware or software issues/limitations.

The biggest problem I get with 4K is MST once we see monitors that don't use it the better it will be.

Once up and running I don't get many problems but if I want to change things then I can get problems with MST. The sort of things that can cause problems is switching between Displayport 1.1 and 1.2 or enabling/disabling crossfire.

Fortunately a couple of reboots/turning the monitor off/on will resolve the problems above.

I imagine with a monitor like this you'd use 5120 x 2880 on the desktop and game at 2560 x 1440 as it would scale perfectly, the best of both worlds with the GPU power available at the moment.

This is probably the way things will go forward for larger 27"+ monitors as with 4K if you're on a 27"+ screen it wouldn't be a great experience to have to drop down to 1920 x 1080.

These will never take off until scaling is better in windows and refresh rates are better, there's too many sacrifices over lower resolution monitors right now.

It would scale perfectly in... A perfect world. But if scaling is handled like it is when running 1920 x 1080 on these 28" 4K models then running 2560 x 1440 on these wouldn't be an attractive option. And I completely agree about scaling needing to be improved on Windows to make these sorts of monitors more attractive.

1080p on a 32" screen is not good.:(

Ah, so that's where my copy of last months pay check went, to your house

I've already said the ROG is the best to go for if you can afford it, I would have got the ROG but £440 for the 4k seems better future proofed value and I didn't have the extra £250.

That's somewhat poetic. I cannot afford 4K but have the monitor you wanted but could not afford.

4k is very ready. It's been perfect since May, sub £500 since June and achievable without £1000+ of gpu since now the 295X2s are cheaper.

A lot of the current panels struggle with b2w transitions even though they state low response times, overdrive artefacts are quite bad in fast paced gaming, firmware issues that can cause input lag or scaler problems, issues with signal dropping out, not sure what the current situation is with 290 cards but on release several models had problems with native res, windows dpi scaling us hit and miss, depending a bit on personal preferences there can be issues with mouse input settings with some games, etc. and thats just off the top of my head.

Just because it has a horizontal rez of 5000 doesn't make it a "K" standard...

Not to spend on a monitor, when you're a little older in life you have to prioritise your finances not blow £800 on a screen that sits on your desk, you'll understand when you get there, for now though you clearly have too much time on your hands, are you sure your pay cheque doesn’t come from JSA perhaps?
