Toner cold call scam

So, you bought something from a cold-caller.
She might have been a pushy seller, but I cant see how it's a scam?

"Cartridge lasts five times as long" "free tickets" "£175 for 2"

It doesn't sound right. Cartridges I use are £30 no free tickets for me.

Wait, how could any money have changed hands without you giving them payment details? Why would you be concerned that you'd paid them without actually giving them any means by which to take the money from you?

If you don't pay for them, what's the problem? If they send them without you paying for them you can just send them back? Or am I missing something here?

None changed hands yet but by convincing him to send the email, he has 'ordered' the goods, they will invoice and chase payment, refuse returns etc. eventually hiring dodgy debt collection to get hold of it.

Circumvents the unsolicited goods laws by effectively making him solicite them.

Ahhh I get it. That's messed up! Suppose the dodgy debt collectors would refuse to take the items back on request.

OP be mad

They will invoice the company when the toners are delivered. Then they will start chasing for the money, they will hope that the person who fell for the scam will want to cover it up so will just say pay it that is fine. If they do then they have probably cleared nearly £300 less the cost of the free gift. You don't have to do that very often to make a living. Otherwise they may start to apply pressure using the free gift as a lever.

Saw Joey Essex on Countdown Friday night. ??? WTF

Yeah I saw that too. Nobody can actually be that stupid. It must be an act. I didn't find him even slightly amusing to be honest. I just kept wanting to punch his stupidly white teeth out.

Terms and conditions

We operate a strictly NO RETURNS policy unless the goods are faulty and an e-mail confirmation has been received stating the PRICE & QUANTITY of the order from the customer

You accept the charge of 50% of the invoice price if goods returned are either unauthorised returns or not faulty.

Am now chasing confirmation in writing that the order placed this morning was a mistake and is to cancelled

The smiley face says it all :p

:D I was wondering what 'lost lasting tonor' was in relation to long lasting toner :p

Remember you didn't place an order, they say you did by using a code, but in your view you didn't place an order. May I also suggest you have a word with someone else in your company, your manager or someone in accounts, and explain the situation, as it is probably best they are told sooner rather than later.

Oh and whenever I am asked about buying stuff I always say I can't even order paper clips. That way they should stop chasing you as you of no interest to them.

This sounds like good advice.

Doesn't that contradict itself?

No returns but you'll pay 50% if it's returned.

Yep, did this straight away. Told the secretary at reception, accounts and my manager about the 'scam' and not to accept any parcels for me without contacting me first. I see any delivery vans arriving anyway.

Just received an email confirming cancellation. Phew.

Have to wait and see if anything turns up
