Do I really need heatsink for a DDC 18W pump?

I was checking on the internet and found some people saying that this pump will get really hot and burn.

Update: I got the heatsink and it fits with XSPC top... pictures below :)

Unless you have a lot of restriction in your loop, that pump will indeed run hot- especially if run full speed. A heatsink is recommended in most cases.

It depends on the top/body being used. That EK heatsink is also a housing (body) so it fits an EK DDC top- not necessarily others.

Ya, I would think so. It's not so much the pump power as it is the inherent design.

I will be using a XSPC top (as I already have it), looks like they are compatible as both use M4 screws and they look similar.

I think I will leave the 10W without heatsink, my setup is already £150 more than I was expecting :(

Thanks for the help :)

I've just recently bought ddc and have been thinking the same thing. From a whole load of YouTube videos apparently heat is the main cause of failure for the ddc. I'm going with the same heatsink next week

I had one that died and I'm fairly sure it was due to overheating fwiw.
Got the heatsink kit for the remaining DDC, but it seems that it wasn't quite compatible with the Acool top and I managed to strip the tiny allen heads trying to fit it... They're now stuck together permanently and unusable. Oh well.

I hope it will be compatible with my XSPC top, I will take extra care with the allen key.

This sounds like a challenge :D
If you fancy getting rid of it, have a look on my wanted thread on MM :)

I got the heatsink today and fitted to the pump with a XSPC top and it fits perfect :D

Hows the heat sink mate, would you mind doing me a favour, I need to now how high it stands from the case to the top of the pump top, so I can plan my loop, I'm ordering one on Monday. would you mind measuring how tall it stands, cheers mate.
