Hello,

I am thinking about going to Ho Chi Min City ( Saigon ) Vietnam in the future.
After some reading on the web on things to do I notice there is a tour of Cu Chi tunnels.
There some photos on flickr of tourist rattling off some rounds from a AK-47 ( or they could be Ak-74’s ! ? ) on a firing range at the Co Chi tunnels.
In light of what has happen in the USA with a nine year old girl killing her fire arms instructor with a Uzi 9mm, the wife is not too happy that I what to try a fire arm.
Even though a spell in the TA and using a L556 ( Revamped SA80 ) the wife is still not happy about me or both of us using a AK-47. :(

Has any one been to this firing range as I really would appreciate your opinion ?

Many thanks

T

They're not really firing ranges. They take you out into the countryside and let you rattle off various types of weapons that they really shouldn't be, but do because their pay is crap and tourist cash is a nice bit on the side. If you're expecting a professional setup, you'll be hard pressed to find one. You can fire off all sort of automatic weapons and throw grenades too.

if that is the case about not being professional I will bear that in mind.
What sort of price am I looking at, and I take it they will love US$'s ! ?;)

Not the most legit setups from what I've heard. If you want to fire some AK's in a professional environment (and closer to home) there are plenty of places in Latvia, Poland and Ukraine.

You're an adult, not a child, big difference!

You're in control of the weapon, you're the one using the trigger. I'd only had experience with air rifles up until I visited Cambodia where I had a go with an M16. Wish I'd tried the AK now instead though, never mind. Did I shoot myself or anyone else? nope.....

As said above though they aren't really professionally setup outfits so still be a bit cautious. Tell your wife several people died whilst driving to work or to pick their kids up from school today. Will you still be allowed to drive then?! I hate to say it but women love the damn drama.....

As horrific as the 9 year old case was I would assume you're stronger than one with a bit more common sense. Shouldn't be any problems. (I've never fired a gun).

I did it back in 2005 - really good tour. I had shot an ak47 already so I shot a bolt action rifle instead :) Also visit the war crimes museum and the hospital caves which were awesome.

EDIT: The AK 47 was 30 dollars per clip so not very cheap.

^ thats about the price through most of asia I found. don't worry about the range its fine. I actually believe the army run it. or at least chaps dressed in army uniforms. its an interesting tour. and i have absolutely no idea what wife is on about. If i remember rightly the gun was actually " attached " some how to where you shot it from i imagine to stop any one from going rambo

The guns are attached to a tabletop which diminishes the experience somewhat. If you want to wield a gun properly there's a range ran by the Cambodia army near the airport in phnom Penh.

That one's much more fun. free wield the guns and they'll let you buy beers there as well. health and safety at its finest. and if you feel like it. you can nip outside and play volley ball with the soldiers.

we tried to convince an american chap to buy an rpg. we eventually convinced him how ever they wouldn't let us do it there as you have to be outside the city. which is just silly ....

Problem is even if you have half an idea how to use a firearm safely if its a cowboy outfit your still in danger from other users :S

If your worried about your own skill set then just use single shot/semi-automatic firing mode until you have a handle on it (if its a professional setup they won't just hand you a loaded fully automatic weapon until they have an idea of your abilities anyway).

I fired off a few rounds at the tunnels.. they were on stands and bolted to a wall.. couldnt take them off and randomly spray.

Well the m4 i fired was anyway.

Was there in july

Ak-47 10 rounds $20 or 500k dong £15
M4 10 rounds $17 400k not too sure but it was cheaper.
They also have m40s etc but cost more for 2 seconds of fun.

They take you down in small groups with one tiny guy who loads & advises with no English lol.

If you want to go shooting go to Cambodia instead massive army run range there $20 for a full clip of ak/m4. And most importantly RPG'S for $300 a pop :P
