The good lady's old Lumia 800 is dying a death and she wants to upgrade. She has no need for the top end processors etc but I know that the bottom end ones have a poor camera and she wants a decent camera on it.

She is going to have a browse as lunchtime but I want to giver her some pointers.

820/830 will probably be the phone to get. The 830 (not sure when it's going to be released) is supposed to have the pureview camera, or at least a bastadised version with the pureview name. It should make for a reasonable camera though.

You could get a 920 or a 1020 pretty cheap nowadays. 1020 you can get for ~£250 and has an amazing camera. Depends if you want all the new updates I guess as I think the 1020 wont be getting a lot of new features after this round.

My dad recently got a Lumia 635 very mid-range price but the phone is great to use, nice size, feel & the camera is decent.

Think it's around the £110 mark.

520 to 635 are very capable little phones, but be aware there is no flash for the camera.

Right, I think that basically lists every Lumia phone available.... :p

OP, what is your definition of mid-range and what price point...?

Low end:

520, 530, 620, 625, 630, 635.

Mid:

720, 820, 735, 830.

High:

Everything else.

A used 1020 will be good if she wants an awesome camera. Otherwise, my personal favourite, out of the 4 mid range devices I listed would be the 735. It has an evolution of the 720 camera, which was fairly decent. 820 camera isn't great and the phone is old. 830 will have a good camera, but is big at 5", will also be more expensive that the 735.

735 also comes with changeable covers, micro SD, w/l charging and WP8.1 out of the box.

Well she went and bought a 635, which is quite a nice phone over my 520.

I am also now looking for a new one as I broke the screen on my 520, which I replaced myself, but it is just not working properly as it did before.

Just got a new job so will await the arrival of the 820 for myself.

Just been looking on amazon with a mate and there's some great prices on Nokia phones, he was looking at a new 925 for £219 iirc.

An 820 is a very old device, but it is strong and sturdy, albeit a bit of a brick. However it has a high end processor (for its time) and performs well.

Fair enough. It's a nice device, but I'd still personally go for the 735. Same phone inside bar a smaller (although same resolution) screen, and not quite as good a camera. Should be a fair bit cheaper too.

But if you like the 830 design and want the bigger screen then it is a lovely device :)

I mistakenly bought a 635 last month.

Nothing wrong with it, and its actually very good, but I just hate Windows phones... Im just dont like it when someone has something I dont and so I bought it purely cos Im a knob.
