i got a new system recently with a h100i with the stock fans sounding like jet engines with temps only around 50 degrees, so before i purchased the system i got 2 4pin sp120 corsair low noise fans to replace the stock h100i fans. but apparently with the case i got which is: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-023-NX&groupid=2362&catid=35

the technician said it couldnt be fitted and replaced with the h100i stock fans. so now i have 2 4 pin sp120 fans in my case being useless for all i know. does anyone know if it is actually possible to have room and replace the h100i stock fans in this case with the sp120 fans i got in the system?
 
As far as I'm aware they are exactly the same dimensions, and similar performance, only the SP120 fans have the rings, the stock fans don't. This "technician" is making it up?
 
Any 120mm fan can be replaced with any 120mm fan.. you've received some inaccurate information.

The only thing that possibly is different is the rubber "seals" near the screws on retail SP120's, but even those can be removed IF they pose some kind of weird problem, which they shouldn't.
 
sigh i told technician team two times on different phonecalls to replace the h100i stock fans with the sp120, what do i do now :( i have sp120 fans on some spare fan sockets in my case if that makes sense. i have never built a pc so i am not sure if i should try and replace the 2 fans myself
 
You could. It is not hard, unscrew 4 screws from fan 1 first (They are also holding the radiator together), while holding the radiator with one hand. Then replace the fan, replace the screws, and you are good to go.

Of course you also need to replace the internal cables, but just follow where the fans are connected to and connect them to the same place. They should be connected to the CPU waterblock directly.

It might be intimidating, but it's not hard :)

Just keep an eye out on the fan orientations. The fans have an arrow on the side to tell you where they blow air. You could post a few pictures here if you want more detailed instructions.
 
on the h100i i see 2 fans on top of the radiator which i can see through the mesh at the top of my case. are they the 2 fans i should be replacing? i might just do it.
 
Yeah.. The fans are gray, right? Which means they are the stock fans.

You could post some pictures if you want confirmation.
 
ok ive got rid of the back fan which was one of the sp120's but the case is very complicated when i have opened the pc i dont know how to get to the top of the mesh to remove the 2 stock corsair fans..there is no signs of easy screws to remove the top of the case, is there screws under the radiator to remove the 2 stock fans
 
No they're on top of the radiator. They don't go through. Unless the fans are Below the radiator?

Apparently the top is held on by plastic clips. You need to take off the front panel first, which comes off by popping it from the bottom.. and then the top. Maybe a Phanton owner can confirm this?
 
so far so good unconnected the 2 stock fans on top of the case from the radiatorwhile holding it up still i have screwed in 1 sp120 fan ontop of the radiator so far, from the logo ontop of the fan on the side it has "1 arrow down and 1 arrow horizontal" is this correct with having the fan on top of the radiator. someone please reply im doing so wel at the moment.
 
can someone quickly tell me what the arrows mean because the 2 stock corsair fans i unplugged from ontop of the radiator im gonna use them for the front and back fans in the case. and with the arrows on the stock corsair fans i replaced i wanna know what way round to place them when screwing in
 
One arrow shows the direction of rotation of the fan, the other shows the way the air flows.

One face of the fan has a frame which supports the motor, the other side has the blades. The air almost always comes out of the side with the frame on it.
 
so the 2 sp120 fans i have with the corsair face showing ontop the arrow on the side says arrow down then arrow to the right. is this ok to have these ontop of a h100i radiator with the airflow direction?
 
There are many arguments about whether the fans should pull cool air from outside and blow it into your case, or help to pull warm air out of the case!

It will work fine either way.
 
My understanding of static pressure fans, is that they should be pushing air thru the rad, and not pulling it thru the rad.

I plan on a top push exhaust h100i with rear 80mm intake, and 2x 140mm front intake. Creating a positive pressure interior, and the 140mm front air pressure fans will help my 780 blower exhaust via the air vents in the PCI covers rear. All in takes will be meshed to prevent dust.

The decision should be based on your total case airflow, it doesn't matter in actuality more than 1c.
