Apple's marketing strategy

:/

Such strong hatred for something you don't have to buy/use.

You think it is 'pretty much true' that Apple will sue someone for eating an apple. See, this is the type of thing that gets (some of) the Apple user base backs up. I couldn't care less about your very colourful view, but you are the type of person that starts fanboism and flame wars off.

The first two blocks in quotes were just a sarcastic remark that is trolled on the net. Apple do sue for almost anything, guaranteed. In fact landmark cases have been issued eg patenting a shape, being allowed to legally steal.

Regarding the monopolisation. MS were forced to offer alternatives to IE, they were forced to open source code... Odd how the same isn't done with iOS and iTunes as an example.

Anyways have said my piece each to their own

Sent from my Windows Phone

Apple just target the high end market (£500-£700) Where as Android target the low, medium and high end markets. This is why android have the largest % of the market.

Apple have been using pretty much same OS since 2007. This has allowed the user base to familiarise themselves with a simple os and in turn all age groups between 2-100 can just pick up and play any model of iphone. You can't just pick-up and play most android phones it usually takes a few days to get used to it.

It annoys me when people say their £50-£300 android phone is rubbish compared to an iPhone. You have to compare high end with high end.

Personally i think my HTC one M8 is better than any iphone but each to their own.:)

They tried sueing a Polish fruit and veg shop in 2012 for having a.pl as their domain name and an Apple as their logo :p

The difference between Apple and Samsung in terms of satisfaction, according to your link, is between 0.04% and 1.5%. Do you believe that better marketing can not explain such a small difference?

I'm not saying Apple products are bad, they are great, they're the best money can buy. But so are many Samsung products, HTC, LG etc.

Apple consistently come top and are way above the average. It's that consistency that's so amazing. Samsung have the odd hit, LG have the odd hit, Apple are always at the top.

Apple's marketing budget is also a faction of Samsung Mobile's marketing budget.

Ok then explain to your father/grandfather that they have to delete their videos/photos/music to install a 1gb update because the installer needs 6gb. Alternatively, they can just use iTunes so explain what that is and how to use it.

If Apple is doing something right, it's marketing. Considering all other aspects, they're doing as good as the next door competitor.

Yeah it needs a bit of space to upgrade and I wish Apple would drop the 16GB phones and iPads and start at 32GB but I'm not Tim Cook... iOS 8 has changed a lot of the internals so I expect teething problems, especially given the amount of devices this is going on.

The iOS 8 teething problems doesn't mean that Apple kit is not keenly associated with ease of use. That's not just marketing as my father & father in law wouldn't be sucked in by marketing. They've used iPads and using them has made them want their own. Almost zero support needed from family members (me or my brother are the technically minded ones)

Apple make some odd decisions sometimes but then so do a lot of companies. The others aren't under the spotlight that Apple is under now they're top of the game.

Erm, they've been using the "same" OS since 2002. Both iOS and OSX share the same core.

Of course both OS X and iOS have moved on since versions 1.0. Given that they share BSD at their root (like Android is based on Linux) you should ask why ios is so easy anybody "from 2-100" can use it yet Android takes a few days to get used to!

If you don't protect your trademark then you can lose it? I'm almost certain they don't want to be suing fruit and veg shops :D

I went from an Iphone 1 to Iphone 3g to S2 S3 S4 S5, S5 annoyed me and went to a 5S.

Apple is really much better from a smoothness and usability perspective.

I'm hardcore Android fan and hate everything Apple stands for , however their Macbook Pro Retina and their Iphone are spectacular products.

The quality behind their products and the feel is very good and second to none. I recently had to have some issues sorted on the MBP and the customer service/speed of the repair was terrific.

My Retina MacBook Pro is gorgeous, powerful and supremely well built. I'd challenge anybody to get the equivalent Windows laptop for the same price.

Wtf is with the auto downloading U2 album, its creepy and stupid. Why would you want such rubbish auto added to your playlists free or not. How can apple decide just to download something.

Apple gives away a free U2 album (you can just delete it, if you don't want it) and a vocal minority goes mad so they actually have to make a tool to remove it from your iTunes cloud. Ladies and gentlemen, people of the 21st century!

It's not just giving it away though. It's downloading it automatically and adding it.
Most people will not want it. Giving away is fine, they often have give always, but you need to "buy it"
It's no wonder people want a remove it button. Otherwise it constantly gets reapplied. So it is a bigger issue than you are making out,

Doesn't download it. It's just available on your account.

It's still retarded but it doesn't download it, and it doesn't take up any space, and it'll disappear if you don't redeem it by listening to it.

But it is still retarded.

It does download it, if you have automatic download switched on, which surly 99% do, why buy stuff and not download it. Mate was just outraged when it suddenly came on his phone. He didn't download it.

Why did they think this was a good idea, why would people want it on their playlists.

.

Probably does if you have auto-download of purchased music turned on. Not the best publicity stunt!

Outraged? Really? *select* *delete*

A bit of perspective is needed.

It wouldn't get "reapplied" - se my post above about new 'purchases' getting auto downloaded - as if that was the case all your iTunes music would be constantly getting downloaded to your device.

The removal tool clears it from your purchased history so you can't even re-download it from the cloud.

But deleting it doesn't remove it from you account. So if you redownload everything, it will be back on.

It's also tampering with your account, have they learnt nothing recently about people not like interfering, eavesdropping etc.

I'm glad there was a backlash, it's needed.

Loo, that isn't what I mean at all by reapplied, you wipe phone and decide to re download everything it will reapply it.
And the removal tool only came after backlash, it shouldn't be on there to start with.

Firstly, they gave away an album. That's all. I don't like U2 but I'm hardly frothing at the mouth with apoplexy. Like I said the whole thing needs putting into perspective. Citing eavesdropping & interfering is making a large mountain out of a small molehill.

And yes, if it is in your iTunes cloud and you re download *everyhting* to a new phone then you'll get the U2 album. I've not met anybody who does that. They get a new phone and restore from backup and get back only what they actually want on their phone!
