Microsoft Details DX12 and DX 11.3

Probably be locked to Win 8 and upcoming 9 , win7 users will be shafted again.

Well that's really what I was hoping to read about in the article, which was pretty thin on actual information. I'm running 8.1 so I should be fine, but I do think they should make it available to 7 as well. I just don't have any high hopes that they will.

From what I read, means that DX12 is an alternative to Mantle for MS, so it will not lose the milking cows windows gamers, by slowing down any other API making a foothold in the area.

Or else doesn't explain why they will keep advancing DX11 for the years to come in parallel too.

From what I gathered. Dx12 is a low level api and will only be in the hands if a few specialist studios/programmers. They will deliver DX 12 engines. Then other programmers will build on these engines using DX 11.3 as its a high level api and simplier to code in.

It sounds interesting, from what i gather My GTX780 wil be DX12 compatible so i dont have to upgrade my GPU although im sure i will get an upgrade itch by then :D but some features i wont be able to use which i will be alittle dissapointed but then you cant expect old hardware to beable to use all new features of an API.

I also dont mind if Windows 7 doesnt get DX12 as i will purchase Windows 9 when it is released as you cant expect to use windows 7 forever so you might as well move with the times, Windows 8 isnt that bad just needs a few tweaks which will come in windows 9.

You need an API for anyone who isn't John Carmack and an API for the demigods who bring us Unreal, Cry Engine etc.

The reasoning that "its dangerous in the hands of the inexperienced" seems to me the start of excuses.

Microsoft picking and choosing why gets the API and who does not, whats the real reason for that?
