I used to do this years ago, back in my late teens and maybe even early 20's.

A mate has dropped out of tonight, and I really was up for going out, I'm 26. I used to have a bunch of confidence as I'm a really outgoing person and love creating conversation and having a laugh.

But I don't know, I would feel so out of place now at a bar on my own.

When I travel abroad (which I do a lot of) I'm absolutely fine with it! I actively seek it as it's the only way to meet the locals and really learn about the place you're in.

But in my home town, it feels alien to stand in a bar on my own...

Thoughts? Am I just being a wimp?

P.s. Anyone in Reading fancy a pint? lol

Personally couldn't ever do that but then again I dont think I could even go to the cinema on my own.

But to answer your question I dont think there is an age limit and if you want to go out for a beer, go for it!

Go to Sakura their clientele is slightly older on the weekends.

Or go to the Jazz club under the bridge for people more your age old fart :p.

Hahahaha, the only memories I have of Sakura is that 1) the dance floor is not a good sight after a few and 2) It used to be my home on Monday nights as a wee kipper when it was called the Fez... Those were the days.

And as for the Jazz club... Well...:p:D

You're 26 surely you' were not old enough for the fez lol. Or was it before the days of ID checking being so harsh?

The dance floor was horrific we lost at least 2 crates(48 per crate) of glasses per night on it :D

I grew a beard very early on and being 6'2" by the time I hit 15 made being ID's none existent. I can't remember ever being ID'd... Think I started going out in Reading around 16 (birthday is in feb). Became really good mates with a guy on the doors at Pavs on the Monday's, Ab-dul, something like that. On my 18th, he wasn't happy when I came walking in covered in baloons and badges lol.

Ab-dul is he the guy who always wore a bandana? Really nice guy but was always a little bit too up for a fight :D. About 6' 3" and almost the same size sideways haha.

I go out many nights solo and I hate it :(...........But am not going stay in...

Am 44 and just about all my mates I used to go out with are now married with family's and they just want to stay home

No, that guy, I forgot his name... Blonde hair? Ab'dul was the black guy, really really nice. Often gave my mate a lift back as he lived near him in the sticks.

I thought he had dark hair then again it was always dark when I saw him :D.

No idea who ab'dul is then or at least don't remember him.

Door men used to have such a high turnover rate it was difficult to get to know them sometimes.

Not on a fri/sat night, but I have been out by myself on sundays/weeknights before if I have fancied a few pints and no one was coming out.

In mainland Europe I would fly solo, yes. In the UK, hell no, unless it was to a quiet pub or fancy elegant bar. Clubbing solo would be a nightmare imo.

go for it matey, when touring I would often find myself on my own due to the fact that I would get bored of the rest of the crew,

and I would look forward to it, had some cracking nights flying solo, best idea is to be honest when meeting some drinking buddies, just let them know that your mate dropped out and you went anyway.

my best night was tagging onto a stag doo in Nottingham, guys were great and it was a fantastic night, getting back to the digs at 6 in the morning for an 8am start lol.

Sounds like the stuff I used to do haha.

I literally dropped an offer to go out in Uxbridge with a few mates as I now want to hit town solo. Sod it.

And yea, the classic "My mate dropped out" line.

Just could not enjoy clubbing on my own.

The pubs different. You can actually meet new people in pubs and I love going in my local on a nice afternoon for a pint and to read the paper. Clubs are mostly too noisy to communicate. You just end up screaming at each other.
