I have a friend who may leave to go back to Italy and not come back, in a few days or a weeks time I don't know:(
If it does happen then I would like to surprise her and turn up in her town.
Now money is quite tight and I want the cheapest option of getting to south of Italy. Its just over 1400 miles according to google map. I don't care about seeing anything, I just want to get to the destination (her) as quick as possible. That's 22 hours riding, how many days riding is that?
Maybe it would be cheaper and quicker by plane, but I think its like two different plane rides??
Im a bit crazy at the moment, im currently texting her not to go, but she's very Italian (stubborn) and likely to leave.
Just need some advice from some clear heads, and agnes even.

Why do you need to go and see her so promptly? It sounds like you're jumping the gun a bit.

I've done it previously but I had to spread it over two days for the sake of my own sanity and safety (and I wanted to stop in Chamonix); that was in a car. You can do it in one (assuming you're coming from mid-Italy) if you're dedicated and preferably using the Eurotunnel.

You'll spend a fair bit in tolls IIRC; can't recall how much I spent, I crossed the Alps via the Mont Blanc tunnel and then went on from there, remember a few bills for 30 euros or so.

Like I said im a bit crazy at the moment, im really not taking the news very well. Ill be thinking a bit clearer when I have some sleep. I just don't want her to go, that is all.
Ive never been over to Europe on the bike so I don't have any idea what is better, ferry or euro tunnel. Like I said main points are cheapest and quickest.

Sorry IIRC?

Cheapest and quickest will be a Ryanair flight or equivalent to any destination (preferably to an airport as close to her as possible). Then from there get a coach/bus to her town.

Book flights from somewhere like skyscanner.net or lastminute.

Just because Italy looks "down the road" from us on Google maps doesn't really make it so.

Plane would be by far the cheapest and quickest - even if you had to pay for loads of taxis/trains at the other end, it would still work out cheaper.

If you're driving, you've got to factor in fuel costs, and toll costs in France, which could easily add another 80EUR to the total, a total which will already be far higher than flight costs.

I'm only on the south coast of france, so nowhere near as far into Europe as where she's going and it's far cheaper and quicker for me to fly to england than drive - last time I looked I could get flights for £70 return.

If you're committed to driving, you'd also have to be fairly brave to attempt the journey in one go. You'd also have to be in a nice calm, relaxed state of mind, which may not be possible if she's a bit more than a "friend". :p

yeah ill need to go by plane most of the way and then get a coach/taxi.

The town is Mont S. Angelo, the nearest airport I think is naples?

Just checked on last minute.com, damn there cheap ok this is good.

Ive just done 1200 miles in 2 days. I left cumbria at 7am on thursday, reached Dover at just after 3pm, stopped along the way of course. Got my ferry at 4.45pm and arrived in Calais at 7.15pm (french time), drove through a fantastic electrical storm to Rouen where we stayed the night. Set of the following morning at 6.45am and arrived in Vilanova i la gertru near Barcelona at about 7.45pm, we stopped several times though. 1200 miles in 2 days, I'd say 1400 is possible in 2 days if you get a decent ferry time.

Jesus this thread is a bit too GD for me.

Wasted trip imo, she clearly doesn't like you. Or if something did happen it wouldn't last. I've saved you two days of driving.

Hollywood: Guy likes girl. Girl leaves. Guy embarks on life changing, sometimes funny, journey to find her. Girl is overcome with emotion. Everyone falls in love and lives happily ever after.

Reality: Friendzoned guy likes girl. Girl leaves. Guy buys cheap plane ticket and a taxi to her new town. Girl finds this a bit stalkerish and pathetic. Everyone is awkwardly stood around for a bit. Guy has emotional break down. Guy goes back home to find a new girl who isn't interested to cling onto.

Slept on it, have more of a clear head now.
She will be handing her notice in at work tuesday then working till it ends and going back to Italy. She has worked there just over a year, so how long notice must she give? I think its a week, or two weeks im not sure.
I wont go after her as soon as I can to Italy, but would like to see her at some point in the future. Were very good friends, its just sad that she wont be nearby anymore.
