She is a horsey person, so needs a toe hook and 4x4 is an absolute must as she is in a field more than the road!

She once had a Nissan Terrano II SE+, she claims it was the best car she ever owned. And she is thinking about getting one again as you can get an alright one for under £3k!

What do you guys think? I said a Land Rover Defender but any decent ones are £5k+.

It needs to be rugged and be able to take a beating. She gives no care for bodywork as it's going to be put through all sorts. So nothing flash like a range rover.

The older terrano is a very functional car that will still suit I'm sure. Land cruiser could be an alternative if they are affordable and in sure the Shogun is still worth a look

I looked into the Shogun, a neighbor has one and he loves it. But personally I think the larger cabin of the Terrano II will suit her more as she has so much horse crap (rubs, saddles etc) that she ships around.

if she liked the terrano, then maybe an X-Trail? If shes towing then you need to ensure that whatever she chooses is rated to tow the weight of combined horse and box with room to spare for safety. On the land rover side then a discovery II would be better than a defender i would expect. (more power, better ride/comfort etc)

Id avoid the defender (i have one) as its going to be expensive to buy and maintain in comparison to a jap truck and it sounds like she doesnt want "character" ;)

Suzuki jimny, my mother has one for the snow it's great. Where we live we live At the top of a hill and it is that steep that when it is covered in snow, gritters don't even bother trying to get up it, but with snow chains the Jimny flys up. With some decent 4x4 tyres it will go anywhere. Don't think they come with a tow bar but we had one fitted for motocross bike trailers and it didn't cost that much at all. Also my mothers is a X reg, (2000) and its still going strong, never missed a beat. Only thing that's wrong with it is the back door has got a little stiff because some idiot reversed into it and buckled it, but parts are so cheap, we got a new back door for it for 90 quid, it's on its way as we speak. Also they are good at towing, it towed my dads transit van which was loaded with 3 motorbikes in the back and a 1000 letre water tank when it broke down, we towed it up the hill I spoke of which is 1 mile long, just put it in low range box and it towed it no problem

I'd be looking at a Mk2.5 Shogun - you should be able to get a 3.0 or 3.5 V6 petrol with LPG for well under £3k.

One in this shape, albeit NOT the diesel!

Once you flip up the rear seats (or if needed you can even remove them) there's lot more space in the boot!

Jimny is great 4x4, but it aint no tow vehicle.

You realise the jimny can only LEGALLY tow 1.3t and a transit is around 2t without anything in it! Never mind 1000 litres of water, 3 motorbikes and passenger! :p Nice way to get some points.

Would be madness to tow a horse box; as you need supplemental spare capacity to account for the horse moving about, and a horse weighs about 500kg+ and then theres the trailer.

Id be looking for something with 2t tow capacity at least.

was only for a mile or two here in the country side, I doubt any rozzers will pull me on a road with no other vehicles for just trying to get home :p but the jimny did it with ease
