are 3gb 780 tis going to be bottlenecked with its 3gb vram in sli

Depends mostly what Screen resolution you game at.

Largest I have seen is Crysis 3 tops out at 2.7gb at 1440p

New games on the horizon are FC4,Alien,GTA V...

I ran SLI for a few days with 780 ti on a ROG and I am not fan of SLI anyway.

You may run out of steam before you run out of ram. Maybe wait and sink your money on something else later.

I had no trouble with three at 1440P.

4K on the other hand. Some huge banding / stuttering issues in games like Battlefield 4 with Ultra, even without MSAA applied.

You're right on the limit there. Least with that many cards

2nd that on stuttering/on the limit.

I had major issues with SLI stuttering (FC3, BF4, Crysis 3 was fine). Buttery smooth single card with Rog Swift.

I currently game at 1440p, and recently got the 780s, and obviously wasn't a cheap purchase so hearing all this about watch dogs and wolfenstein needing lots of vram and that being the most limiting factor was a major cause for concern. I mean the idea of having 2 780s plummet in the frame rate due to a lack of vram is ridiculous. Maybe it's just games coded badly. I've seen people say that we will need 6-8gb cards to run console ports in a a year or so.

do you think it's worth returning the 780s and buy two 970s/wait for amd's announcement or is it not worth the hassle and my 2 780s will be fine and I'm being paranoid?!

Im gaming at 1440p with a single 780ti (water cooled and oc'd to give 5-10fps more), i could not justify the 2nd one's cost over the issues I have with SLI. One card that can do the job is always a better choice.

You either send them both back and get a 980 or wait and see if there is a new "full fat" 980 on the hoizion and sell the 780 tis later (which will cost a lot).

If it where me right now, i would get a single 980...

Coded for console then ported over with as little work as possible to get it out the door.

3Gb going forward is not ideal going by WD/Wolfenstein, all titles are still playable with reduced IQ if needed though.

neither of those games are worthy examples. Wolfenstein uses mega textures which is stupidly resource intensive. I managed to wrack up almost 7GB when applying MSSA via the console on the 290x

Watch Dogs similar story, just poor optimisation. This is at 4K, 1440p 3GB is a minimum but still ok for practically everything

MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming?

Go for the Msi, good base oc and better cooler and not much more money.... (The Palit is rear exhaust vs msi which is case exhaust so you will need some case fans...)

I wouldn't personally buy a 3GB card now.

I have an 8GB 295x2 (technically still 4GB though) and it won't be any good for 4k but will keep me going at 1440p for a good few years hopefully.
