Changed to a x79 board and now only 1x pci-e

As title, got this MSI Big Bang II off 8 pack, iv another thread in overclocking showing it wont overclock, but also my AMD R9-290x seems to be stuck in 1x PCI-E mode got latest drivers, no idea why its in this mode, any ideas ?

If it's v1.1 x16 then don't worry too much, you're only missing about 3-5%. If it's v1.1 x8 or x4 then it's more of a problem. GPUZ will tell you.

Edit: do you really mean 1x or v1?

If you open GPU-z and while sitting idle it should read PCI-e 1x and then when you open a game or bench it just jump up to its 16x speed.

you sure? mine only drops to pcie x16 2.0 and boosts to 16 3.0 when render

Ahhhhh THANK YOU shankly1985, yes i was looking at idle speeds, burning the GPU its jumped to x16 3.0

Do you mean PCI-E 1.0?
You need to get to BIOS, or use MSI Click BIOS II -> Mainboard Settings -> PCI Subsystems Settings. And activate there what ever you want.

Yeah sure seems your card isn't idling properly? it should drop to 1x when not doing anything.

yeah it does now,after I closed four web pages/tabs
