Hi people I need some advice I have just upgraded my motherboard and cpu to the fx 8350 and a sabertooth rev 2.0 very good motherboard my cooling is a H80i,I can only seem to overclock the cpu upto 4.30 from its standard 4ghz I cnt get it any higher without it crashing any advice and help would be very appreciated.

I have heard u can hit over 5ghz with this chip, the 4.3 overclock was done using the in built in oc on the board.

You should be starting off with about 1.4 -1.45V on the vcore and the LLC on the CPU set to extreme and the CPU/NB set to vey high. Most settings to auto. I use a CPU frequency of 250MHz and a lower multi but your memory clock may affect this. Overclocking the memory usually requires a ram voltage of 1.6-1.65V. Disable turbo.

Try starting about 4.5GHz, but check your cooling.

I no longer use prime for stability checking, prefer to use encoding or similar to check how the system reacts or game.

EDIT. My 8350 is two years old next month and still going strong. I did have it benching at 5GHz as can be seen in the above thread but have had it ramped back for the hot summer months. I still find the odd tweak to try. It is a very good CPU for trying out things, superior to Intel for the OC fun IMHO.

I've had an 8350 and I now have a 5930k and I can confirm that they're more fun to OC than intel (haswell at least). and cheaper if you break them haha
 
Hmm ok sounds fun my motherboard is a decent board so I shouldn't have any problems I was trying to hit 4.7 buy my haveing the multi at 21.5 or 22 but increasing the cpu frequency but it just would refuse to post sometimes or even boot into windows, so I mite try it with a lover multi and see how I get on then
 
You're motherboard should be fine for 4.8+, really good motherboard! If its failing to post you can try increasing voltage more or reducing the bus frequency. One method I saw was to put in your desired multi, put voltage to 1.5v (maximum!!!) and see if it works. If so, then slowly reduce voltage until it stops working
 
But I have heard that to much voltage can fry the cpu, and that's what worried about Wat sort of multi should I start on summing like 18 and just increase the cpu frequency until it doesn't boot, I just dnt want to fry the cpu.

Just seen the speed u have ur cpu clocked to that's the sort of speed I want out of mine.

This is the guide I originally used when clocking my 8350, it got me 4.8 easily with alright temperatures.

For all of these, you do need decent cooling though, bear that in mind!!

On this thread, linked earlier, there are loads of people all using different methods to get there clocks as high as possible with as little heat as possible.

For my 8350 to be stable at 5Ghz, I had my voltage at 1.5v. I could probably have reduced it slightly, but as it was only to get a few numbers I left it at 1.5v and only use it very sparingly.

The best cinebench score I got was using the following method, courtesy originally from ALXAndy

  • Reset everything to stock
  • Put multiplier as low as possible (on the crosshair its 4x)
  • Raise bus frequency 5Mhz at a time until windows fails to load
  • Go back 5Mhz to the last frequency that windows will boot from
  • Raise multiplier to get desiered frequency
  • Add voltage for stability (dont go over 1.5v is the general rule)
  • OC ram and north bridge to desiered levels (based on what ram you are using)

In terms of what settings I have used to get 5Ghz, here they are:
CPU: 5.15Ghz (Bus: 270Mhz; Multiplier: 19x) @ 1.5v
North Bridge: 2700Mhz
RAM Frequency: 2160Mhz; 11-11-11-27-1T Latencies @ 1.65v
LLC: Ultra High; All current capabilities set to 130%
All energy saving modes set to disabled
