are 3gb 780 tis going to be bottlenecked with its 3gb vram in sli

3GB is fine, ignore the VRAM naysayers.

By the time 4K is relevant you will have changed GPUs.

Facts say you're wrong when it's been shown that console ports namely watchdogs have significantly less performance with a 3GB 780 vs 6GB 780 at 1080p.

What benefit do you get out of giving advice that will potentially bottleneck the op sooner and potentially have to upgrade sooner?

Just because Ubisofts X1/PS4 ports are done badly with little care for vram optimisation, does not mean that the op and most likely millions of pc users wouldn't still like to play their ports as they are usually very popular.

+1

Never had a problem with running out of vram with my SLI 780ti's at 2560x1440

Really the only people that will moan that 3GB is not enough vram for 1440p are people that are trying to use very high AA settings..;)

With the power of 780Tis in SLI you could argue that most people would want to use very high AA settings ;)

neither of those games are worthy examples.

Valid examples due to being a taster of what's coming in regards to (poorly optimised)ports when people want to play them.

Regardless the optimisation-partly AMD/Nvidia's fault too imho as it suits them down to a tea that some will upgrade for a title...

cough*6Gb 780 that arrived just in time for WD*

What benefit do you get out of giving advice to spend more on a GPU with increased VRAM JUST to bandaid poorly ported/coded games which are, for the best part, a rarity in the grand scheme of things.

If the OPs goal was to play the latest and greatest console ports with known memory issues then perhaps a 6GB card might be ideal.

However, Watchdogs runs like ass anyway, 3GB or 6GB.

The op has even specifically expressed concern for those popular badly optimized ports. So you pretending needing extra vram is a myth is really helpful for the op right?

Watchdogs is a terrible example to give. I spent a lot of time, an obsessively embarrassing amount of time modding and tweaking the game for about a month, and VRAM has nothing to do with the stuttering issues, at all.
The exact same issues are present on 6gb cards.

Happy Ti SLI user here, at 1440p. By the time VRAM is an issue, I'll have new cards anyway

Whatever issues you have with watchdogs the fact of the matter is that in that game having 3GB of ram at 1080p can significantly effect your fps as shown by hardocp:

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/06/11/asus_strix_gtx_780_oc_6gb_review_exclusive/3#.U6f6r7Ejo70

All you have to do is just be factual and say look, it's very possible that with SLI 3GB cards you could run out of vram before performance even at 1080p on several recent console ports and there is no indication that the optimisation will be improved by certain developers to not make that a real concern.

The op could possibly save money in the future by keeping those facts in mind and being aware of a possible bottleneck in certain games.

You can bring any GPU setup down to it knees with high enough setting....
Same as You could spend over £3000 on buying x4 6GB titan blacks and high enough AA and 4k would bring them to there knees...;)

But of cause having over 3GB of vram would be better...But at the end of the day there no 780ti available with over 3GB of vram apart from the high priced titan black..
