AMD teasing new product, is it Radeon or FirePro?

The 970/980 are not top of the range, that will come later with full fat Maxwell packed to the eyeballs with extra transistors for max performance and a TDP around 250 watts.

The limiting factor with top of the range GPUs is cooling anything else is secondary.

And die size, once you start hitting 450-500mm2 you're up against it as well. 980 is 400mm2, so they will only squeeze maybe another 20% out of it on this node.

Surely nobody actually pays full price though! It's like Domino's are always 50% off, and it still seems a bit pricey for a pizza! ;)

It would have to be a great price and offer fantastic performance for me to even consider it. If it only offers say 10% more performance than a 980, costs the same but you've got all the drawbacks to cope with, it won't be worth it.

Many people don't have loads more money to throw at a bigger power supply or bigger case. I could guarantee that there are a huge amount more people with set ups capable of housing and running 2 x 970's then there are capable of running two power hungry cards with AIO water coolers...

you want to plug and play if it's going into an already existing rig, Crossfire 390X looks like two 120mm Rads, one rad is probably ok, but finding space for two in an existing rig might be a problem.

to be honest what we need is a really good open air work bench, but ours look Krap....only the very expensive D-Frame looks good :cool:

i think AMD have to be very careful now, because so much has changed since seeing the 970, it makes AMD cards suddenly look very old.
 
I managed to get a sapphire tri x r290 for £225 delivered new a few weeks ago and was initially a bit gutted when the 9 series came out a week later ..but looking at the benchmarks and my finances i think it was still a good/the right deal for me...will do me 18 month to 2 year (1080) and my temps seem fairly good although it possibly doesn't feel such an amazing deal as it did last week ..hey ho!
