That "next-gen" feel

Because people keep demonstrating that they have no idea what generation means, hence "Herp derp next gen" and "herp derp TRUE next gen" nonsense.

I'll stop when they do, which'll probably be never.

Because it is so much better to type "Does anyone think that any of the games released so far on this gen look and feel like they are the next gen when compared to the old gen"

So you never say anything that is technically incorrect when it saves typing / explaining safe in the knowledge that everyone will still know what you meant. It is pendatry at its worst.

No it isn't at all, you don't have to say that big mouthful to get to the point. There's no reason to even mention "next gen" at all.

It could be as succinct as "have we had any games that has made you think *wow* with the new consoles?"

Because "next gen" isn't a feel or a look. It's not being pedantic at all.

So on the Wow perspective i can say that i enjoyed Killzone more than Destiny on the graphics aspect probably because the first one was made with ps4 in mind while the other with all 4 in mind. I was looking at the water in the first and the second and in my opinion Killzone looks better and shinier.

Unfortunately the more we pass from gen to gen the less we will notice graphically. And also it depends how much programming companies are willing to do for their games to look nice (cough cough Aliens CM). For example look at the Last of us in the ps3. I would never think that a geforce 7900 can pull graphics like that. Which shows to me how amazing work the people of Naughty Dog have done. Fast forward to the ps4 version and although i am still happy with it if you take the 60fps vs the 30 i cannot notice differences. Is that what the next gen is all about? GTAv looks promising though

Titanfall's textures are old looking, i think Crysis 2 (pc version and probably the worst of the Crysis trilogy) looked a lot better and that is a game from 2010. I have both on the PC though i cannot talk about the console versions. Crysis 3 on PS3 vs PC is a generation change though graphically.

I think the new uncharted will be the proper next gen experience and Assasin's creed looks promising - even though for some reason i cannot play that series. I am crossing fingers for the new batman!

When i buy a next gen console i would like to see proper next gen games rather than just hd remakes of games i already played (resident evil remake) and currently there is a huge amount of remakes already of last gen games. If that is the case where is my FFVII remake?! If SE does a remake of FFxiii-2 for the new consoles i am done with them :P

I'm all for remakes but they should only continue this practice whilst there's no backwards compatibility. Because the next round of consoles should have the same architecture I'm fully expecting ps4 games to play on ps5.

Titanfall was a joke people from when MS were constantly saying "But have you seen Titanfall", I do not thing it represents next gen at all.

I am all for remakes of games that are at least 2 - 3+ gens old. I dont see a reason for a game that i played on the ps3/xbox360 to come back again with a bit better visuals. I am all for it though if they change the visuals and add new content though. The first and only remake i really enjoyed as if it was a new game even though i knew generally the plot was RE remake for gamecube. That was how remakes are in my mind and probably that is why i am spoiled now. Look at god of war HD. OK its the opportunity to play the ps2 games on the ps3 with better resolution - but nothing else it is still the same game and visually doesnt look as good as say GOW3. RE remake though, compared to the RE1 from psx and saturn era, had a whole lot more content and more story and more stuff to do that even a veteran who played the first game so many times wouldnt feel like "been there done that already". And now Capcom realised that that game should come out to all consoles not just Gamecube... If only back then they did what they are doing now RE4 prototype would be released. It looks very nice go have a look.

Next Gen to me is 4K/120FPS, we are not there yet, but we will get there eventually, looking forward to the next generation.

Let's ignore what's actually being said and moan pedantry! Yeah, no.

People don't seem to understand that when terms are used so incorrectly as this, they tend to lose meaning for the most part.

This illustrates my point. This is not how generations work at all, but this thinking is what breeds statements such as "true next generation"

There isn’t really a definitive meaning of Next Gen, that’s the reason why I said “to me” before I posted what Next Gen means to me. That is my opinion, so you can’t really tell me that my or anyone else’s opinion regarding Next Gen is wrong, just like I cannot tell you that your definition of Next Gen is wrong also.

I have to say, when the PS4 and XB1 arrived I was hoping to see native 1080p and 60fps as the norm. I do feel a bit let down in this respect considering where PC gaming is at now. Don't get me wrong, I understand there's more to it than just '1080p' and some of the games right now look stunning, eg Driveclub but I always thought 1080p/60fps would be the base start point for all games and then see what the devs can squeeze out the hardware.

All these sub resolutions is just a bit disappointing in my opinion, it makes me wonder what the 'next gen' consoles will be like. Will PS5 and XB2(?) actually do native 1080p/60 or higher from the start?

No one cares though, and yet you seem to need to post up constantly in any thread that mentions it.

Again. No one cares. All we do think is, 'Oh look here spoffle goes again with his mind-numbing pedantry. '

Its not as if no one knew what was meant, So what does it matter? surprisingly it doesn't...

I'm not saying your views on the consoles are wrong, I'm pointing out that the criteria you're using to stipulate what a generation is or what it means is incorrect.

For example, when the Wii U came out, people moaned and went on about how it isn't "truly next gen", as if it has to meet some arbitrarily set specifications and visual fidelity to be considered a generation ahead.

When the PS4 and Xbox One came out, they again started moaning about the Wii U, claiming that the PS4 and Xbox One were "truly next gen" compared to it.

Because people think "next gen" means some specific, though vague and arbitrary increase in visual fidelity.

There also is a definitive meaning of "next gen", which has been my whole point. A generation is a step forward in the development of consoles. That's pretty much it. It doesn't have anything to do with specific specs, graphics or anything like that, and there will be multiple generations because your wish of UHD at 120Hz comes true.

Which is completely understandable, especially when you're used to playing PC games at high res and FPS.

However, part of it is because people were under the impression that the PS3 and Xbox 360 were running quite high resolution in the first place, when really most of the games were quite low resolution, upscaled for 720P or 1080P.

Personally, I got a PS4 and a Wii U for the games that I want to play that don't come out on PC, and whilst it's not unreasonable to want better, it's mostly about the games and gameplay than anything else.

REALLY??? Please can you tell me who exactly came up with this 'definitive meaning' of 'Next Gen’
And if you can tell me who this person or committee is, isn't that also someone’s opinion?
