Is the quality of driving going down? Just about every day on the way to and from work I see at least one shocking piece of driving. This morning, I was bombing down the outside lane of a dual carriageway at about 70mph and some dumb bint doing about 50 in a BMW just drifts across from the left with no indication causing me to have to slam my anchors on! What is up with people? Is signalling too much effort these days?

Morning rant over :o

Someone crashed into the back of me last week because they were either not paying attention or following too closely to stop in time when I did.

Bad drivers are everywhere, I don't think there's more of them; you probably could go on a several month stint and not have to deal with any idiots.

What I notice more these days are lazy drivers with a complete lack of road discipline, awareness or effort when it comes to driving.

Some people, like a lot in this sub forum like/love to drive, me included. There are some people who drive because they have to. They're not with it, or care. No one is good at something they're not interested in.

Bad drivers are everywhere

But they definitely seem to congregate around the Midlands...

I spent a week in Bath this month, and the change was astounding. People were far more courteous, letting you out, not tailgating, cutting you up, not actively trying to drive into you etc.

Yeah some idiots out there. This morning I was on a dual carriageway minding my own business doing about 50 in my BMW, I move into the outside lane to take an upcoming right hand exit and I get some moron comes up behind me doing 70 almost hitting me!

Was he bombing it? Shocking driving mate. I wouldn't have even bothered with indicating.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Love that.

I think driving standards are getting worse. Not sure if it's because people aren't concentrating or if it's because as someone said just don't care.

Weight of traffic has a role to play as well. The driving test is much tougher now than when I took mine 23 years ago.

However I drive on the same roads and can look back on just how much busier they have become. Proximity of traffic can make what was a minor error of judgement it to a full blown prang now.

people always seem to pull out into the "overtaking" lane without paying any attention as to what is coming up behind them in that lane regardless of speed.

70% of my daily commute is dual carriageway and I cannot go a full week without someone pulling out on me causing me to brake, 9/10 times it is a non-event and I just slow down and get mildly annoyed for a few seconds, but every once in a while it is a full on anchor up job :(

Very amusing I'm sure :p

But as far as I'm aware, doing 70mph on a dual carriageway that has national speed limit signs is not illegal or bad driving. I even had my headlights on so she would definitely have seen me if she had bothered to look.

I've stopped signalling nowadays.

You signal to go into lane 3 and people go out of their way to speed up and block you from coming in. Far easier not to signal and jump in before they try and funny business.
