Hello chaps and gals...

I may have rambled a bit; so those who don't have time to read the entire post but may offer some advice, here is the short version:

• Need iPhone 6 insurance • Would appreciate reviews from those who have used 3rd party insurance policies and have made a claim; positive or negative. • Please include details such as when you made the claim, what device, time to resolve, how it was resolved (repaired/replaced/refurbished device/new device etc) ... Thank you

And now the long bit!

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

As I am sure a significant proportion of the members of OCUK, I have recently acquired a spangly new iPhone 6.

While I am careful with all my gadgets and, touch wood have never had any incidents that have required me to use the insurance policy, I still would like to continue insuring my new iPhone as I did with my iPhone 5.

So I am looking for a reliable insurer who will offer the usual coverage such as:
- Loss
- Theft
- Accidental Damage including Water Damage
- Overseas Coverage
- Unauthorized calls/data cover
- Mechanical Breakdown (i.e. the phone battery wears out and they cover the charges for Apple to replace it etc.)

Now I know I can check the various sites that provide reviews, but it would be nice to hear advice from you good people who I can be sure it is genuine feedback and not reams and reams of good ratings that may have been posted by the insurer themselves to raise their overall ratings.

Obviously you don't know how good an insurer performs until it comes to you needing to make a claim, which I have never done. I would appreciate any of you who have been this position giving your review; whether it be positive or negative.

There are a lot of sites offering very similar policies for very similar prices. So it is hard to decide which one to plump for.

My network provider is Three; they offer their own device insurance policies priced up to £10; however, I bought my iPhone sim-free direct from Apple, so I am unsure whether they would insure a phone not bought through them. I don't see why they wouldn't, however. I will be calling them tomorrow.

The benefit of using Three as my insurer is network provides usually resolve claims a lot faster than 3rd-party insurers. Most claim to get a new device shipped to you next day and I believe Three offer the same.

I know a lot of bank accounts offer gadget insurance with some of their accounts however my banks offering is £13.50/month with other bits and bobs like breakdown cover and holiday insurance - which I would not benefit from so not really appropriate.

Thank you for reading and thank you for those who are able to take some time and educate me hopefully others who are in the same position as me.

GD doesnt like apple.

Er, Ok then if it helps those who dislike Apple so much that they refuse to help because it's an iPhone; I made a mistake; it is actually a Samsung Nexus Moto Xperia Galaxy S8. Forgive me. Forgive me. I was in a rush writing the post and didn't bother to check the devices proper name as I didn't think it would be important given the main point of post was more about finding and insurer...
Not whether iPhones were good or not.

Bending of the phone should not be an issue as it is the smaller version of the Samsung Nexus Moto Galaxy S8. Anyway that would count as accidental damage which is one of the prerequisites I listed.

Thanks :)

I get phone insurance through my bank, Natwest. Most banks will offer a 'premium' current account which bundles travel insurance, breakdown cover and phone insurance - amongst other things, for a monthly sum. I've claimed twice now and the process was dealt with very quickly and efficiently. The 2nd time I recieved my replacement handset the next day after reporting water damage at 4pm the day before!

The items you are listed are not all insurance.

- Loss - insurance
- Theft - insurance
- Accidental Damage including Water Damage - insurance
- Overseas Coverage - this is no different to loss or theft?
- Unauthorized calls/data cover - covered by networks as long as you report in time.
- Mechanical Breakdown (i.e. the phone battery wears out and they cover the charges for Apple to replace it etc.) - Warranty.

You should try to avoid network insurance and use bank / house contents insurance, it will be cheaper by a considerable margin.
