The GTX 970 - Why would you NOT buy this card?

Have 4GB 670FTW's in TriSli so waiting for all of the post release stuff to die down and evaluate the numbers once they've been put through the ringer by actual users. I can then look at real world info/bugs/issues/performance etc and decide what to buy or wait for.

I'd probably want TriSli again as I'm running 7920x1440 so want to see what the scaling/drivers are like before spending :)

10 people sat in a room testing 2 PC's-290-790 on a variety of games, they wouldn't have a clue.

[comedy]Unless it was a PhysX title[/comedy] :P

Because it is not 40% or more faster than the 290/780, but more like 0-3% faster.

One of my GTX970's scored just over 12% higher than my GTX780 in Valley, I think your comparing after market clocked up cards to base clock 970's there.

Or a Gsync monitor. Or they wanted to use 3D. Or they weren't wearing headphones and were being deafened by the 290s...

I hate my AMD cards....

I am really considering selling them but I can't be bothered with Ebay!

I second this, I find updating hardware on a regular basis does end up being as cost effective as building a new system every 3-4 years due to resale values.

Then atleast you always have the up to date gear. If you into that of course.

Exactly.

3. Some people prefer AMD.

Bwahaha! :D

Call me crazy but i actually think there is a manufacturing conspiracy where a large batch of AMD cards were made of substandard quality and they didn't bother recalling them... ;)

From what i see on here and other forums its at least 5:1 the "failure" rate for AMD vs Nvidia

Next card will probably by the 970.

Reptiles rule the Earth - I read it on a forum! It must be true!

Also:

AMD is DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!

This is what I am thinking. I would love to get SLI 970s (cause of the Diddy PCBs and low power) but am hoping the price of 2 cards + waterblocks - 780 and block will go down but I doubt it.

So I am just waiting for the game to justify the upgrade (GTA V???) and the effort to do the replacement.

My Onkyo 876 home cinema amp is still pumping out HD audio 6 years on ;)

Ditto, and a heck of a lot of heat! :) You upgraded everything else though, right?

I tend to upgrade my GPU more frequently in comparison to the rest of the components, as they can last years before they need upgrading.

Because looking at the 3DMark threads and such clocked 780's are on par or beating 970's.

One guy posted his old 780 beating his new 970.

There's 1 780 above the 970 on the air cooled top 15. If you look at the graphics score you'll see the 970 is actually better for graphics. I think you need to learn how 3dmark works and that a better CPU can help your score a lot.

I think you need to stop using 3DMark to compare cards.... There's these little programs called GAMES that run on these things too!

The majority of people will use these cards to actually play games and let's face it there will be little difference in playability between a 290/290X/970 so this whole this is faster then that is a bit pointless.

Sold two of my 290s and currently using my only 290 before I switch to a 970.

Why?

Mantle is broken for me, has been for months with BF4 and since that's the only mantle game I play it's worthless.

Lower power consumption and less heat while giving the same performance.

Never had an issue with Nvidia drivers
