Mine seems to have it quite loud. Even at 60FPS I can quite clearly hear it over my CPU fan, and my CPU fan isn't exactly quiet...
I take it if it's that intrusive I should just RMA it?
My old 4970x2 then my first 7950 both had bad coil whine pretty bad, scolling on a web page made it whine! but then I ditched my 700w tagan psu for a 1000w corsair and the coil whine stopped 100% can't hear it at all, and then I added another identical 7950 and still no coil whine at all! So I'll never use a cheap or Low powered psu again. I mean when you see people saying is 600 w or 700w or 800w enough for this rig etc why not just get 1000w and you have pleanty, it's not like it's always using 1000w it will only use what's plugged into it.
Yeah one of my cards has intrusive coil whine. Only problem is proving it to Ocuk.

If from OCUK and is less than 14 days old, can't you use DSR
I know the rules have changed slightly, but wouldn't the coil whine then become a valid reason for rejection?
If I DSR it I will only get a partial refund (to buy another one) as ive used it (based on new rules)
Coil whine is a fault.
Surely you'd send back as a fault as then your shipping is covered???![]()
Well that's a load of rubbish only getting a partial refund when it is still in the initial 14 days, makes me reconsider ever using Overclockers UK again. :/
I'm well aware of that but intrusive Coil whine is a large fault and if they weren't willing to give either a replacement or a refund that sucks. Especially when other people with the same issue have managed to return it to other retailers. It isn't just opening it using it and then sending it back because you don't like it.Steady on there. This is the case with ALL online retailers, there is new laws that have come into affect. OCUK is one of the best for customers service.
If you buy a product, handle it (open and used it) then DSR it, the product becomes used ann B-grade and can't be sold as new, the retailer is well within their rights now to partial refund you to cover the costs lost because you handled it. It's not really fair the shop takes the hit after you have your hands all over it?
No, if the coil whine is intrusive and it's the actual card that's at fault, then you'd get a replacement, or full refund.
Gibbo has stated himself that coil whine is a fault here

However, on light of new information it does seem they will accept it as a fault. I will try contacting them on Monday and see what happens.
Hmm yeah, I am tempted to try the Crysis menu trick. Other people seemed to get results from just leaving that menu on for a long period(I guess it doesn't lock framerate). I'd imagine any game which has some section that doesn't lock framerate would work mind you.Ocuk are top guys, they will help you out. I'm going to give mine a few more days of hammer time to see if it goes (sometimes it does after use)

Absolutely incorrect. Please read the new regs. I posted the relevant section in the 970 owners thread after someone else asked. Goods do not become "second-hand" or "used" just because you've taken them out of the packaging and tested them.
For "used", the retailer has to show that the goods have been materially worn and hence reduced in value. A graphics card that's just been run for a few hours - yet is designed to be run for 1,000s of hours - is not in a materially used condition. Any court would order a full refund.
