AMD Radeon R9 390X Arrives In 1H 2015 – May Feature “Hydra” Liquid Cooling

It will be interesting to see what the full fat Tonga will be performance wise, and whether AMD has been binning them for the R9 370X(I would imagine it would be a midrange GPU) launch?

I genuinely hope that AMD do release some pearlers in the 3 series. I am not up for an upgrade in truth (can't afford it) but do love to see some decent competition.

Well if you want to be picky like that, the Titan was out a year before the 290X was released and only then did that manage to match it, so horses for courses. Also as a genuine question, is the 285 on old tech or new?

Yes but the difference was Titan cost £800 and Amd gave it's performance for half the price. I don't see Nvidia giving their 980 or 970 for half the price as Amd's old gen. The 285 is supposed to be new gen but obviously much cut down (256bit bus, less shaders, rop's etc) than what their high end new gen will be. Priced at £170 means their high end can come in at £400 and £300 approx while Nvidia's high end will come in at £400 and £500 if not more. When the 970's come in at £200 then they will be good value for a mid range card though people will have to wait awhile for that I suspect. I don't even think the 285 is good value but as long as it does not affect high end Amd card prices at launch I don't really care. I would like Nvidia to offer me the same bang for buck as the 290 did at launch with their uncut cards but I cannot see that happening now that they can charge near £300 for the 970.

Sorry but if you are going to say that the titan cost £800 which sounds about right at launch then surely you have to use the launch price for the 290x as well, so the 970 gives 290x performance for about half the price.

Literally none of that makes logistical sense.

Why

Sorry but if you are going to say that the titan cost £800 which sounds about right at launch then surely you have to use the launch price for the 290x as well, so the 970 gives 290x performance for about half the price.

The point is when the Titan came out at £800 Nvidia did not have a 5% less performance card than it for half the price until much later. When Amd launched the 290x it launched the 290 near enough at the same time. Now the 970's are out it only offers the same performance as the 290 one year on for virtually the same price it was launched at.

Let's lighten the mood in here... how about a little game. When do you think 390X will show up and will it be Pirate Islands. Answers on a (virtual) postcard like so: :D

November (in time for Black Friday)

This thread is an incredible waste lol.

If you read the OP it is based on absolutely no facts what so ever, just speculation and yet here we are with people still arguing about all manner of things that don't matter.

Who cares about ancient pricing, old AMD v NVidia arguments and things that may or may not happen with GPUs.

The one thing that is interesting is NVidia have launched a pair of cards that have raised the bar in several areas and should be given credit for it.

AMD on the other hand are very much on the back foot and need to get their product line up sorted out fast.

Early next year I will be buying some fast cards, I don't care if they are from the red or green team as long as they are the best available. This is the only thing I am interested in when it comes to GPUs.:D

Time to go off and do some gaming, I have played about 50 hours in the last 4 days as there has not been very much interesting on these forums.:p:D

As long as it makes sense to you, then that's all that matters then hey... ;)

Of course and to others that understand what I mean also :)

I will make it simple. Nvidia unless they change from their last two generations will never give their customers the same bang for buck as Amd on their full fat cards at launch and the only reason they are selling the 970 at £270 is because it's a mid range cut down version.

win8.1 the master of repeating the same stuff about 20 times a thread.

Give it a rest, you had your own thread closed and now just use other threads to repeat the same guff.

The trouble is no ****** gets what you mean, it just reads as a load of bunched up repeated waffle :p

Titan Fall, mate, its renewed my passion for FPS games, such fun...

The only thing I'm getting from your posts is you fishing for bites by repeatedly calling the 9 series mid range. I didn't see anyone calling the 290/290x mid range cards before this release and both (even overclocked) are beaten by overclocked 970/980's respectively.

With a 256bit bus they have to be. They are not full fat Maxwell to be sure. Sorry I don't mean to offend but I would just like both Amd and Nvidia to offer their uncut versions straight away at launch so both customers get the best bang for buck. 290 would be mid range now that Nvidia can offer the 970 at the same price and performance much later.

Quit whilst you're behind.

I don't worry whether I am behind in certain peoples estimations as long as I speak the truth about what has happened the last two gen's of cards. Mid range first, full fat later at a much higher price than £300.

But you're making zero sense which is what people are getting at. GM204 isn't a cut down GPU. It will only ever see a 256bit memory bus. Stop referring to the memory bus as exhibit A, as if it has any bearing on your argument
